Talk about cheap people...

This person called for an estimate for cleaning the interior/exterior of the gutters as well as wash their home and patios. She said it has been 10 years since it was cleaned last. That person charged her 10 $175 for just power washing the house and she admitted he missed the tall sides of her home and did not even clean the exterior of the chimney.

After she belittled the guy who performed the job and said thats why she has not been able to bring herself to hire anyone else she said she thought the job was worth $225 since it has been 10 years. I told her thank you for her opinion and to have a nice day. She got upset and said where is the quote. I told her that she was not getting a quote from me as it would be a waste of time as I would hit her up easy for over 7 bills. She about choked and asked what was my suggestion? I told her to down size because she apparently can not afford to keep up her property maintenance. :yes4:

Why are homeowners so far removed from their senses when it comes to our service trade. They all scream to not be taken advantage of with the shotty work or using a person who is not licensed or insured, but do not want to pay what its worth. Maybe we should start the media up with a "Blame the home owners" campaign as to them being the reason so many companies are not legal...

10 years ago is a long time ago.....just saying

You know how home owners think. Just hook up water/bleach/blast away the dirt.

Oh I forgot, this is alum siding also which makes it even more detailed to not leave her with a house that looks like this.

I usually won't even bid an alum sided house unless it's a paint prep. The ones that need cleaned are usually 25+ years old and about half of the color is oxidation. If they insist, I take a before and after pic and make them sign off on a printed image.

I agree it is about educating the customer, it is just too bad we have to spend so much time on it at every job. It is even worse when they have that preconceived notion in their head.

Nope, 5 mins. tops, if you spend more time than that it means...#1 You can't sell... #2 You're Begging.. #3 Customer is price Shopping.

I addressed everything she wanted and even explained how we can properly achieve all the concerns she had from the other power washing contractor. She said she was waiting for another estimate still. I asked why she used the other pw in the past and she said in this order that his price of $175 was cheap, but his work was terrible. I mean the guy missed 2 sides because they were high. So I commented that she was out of $175 with no results and asked how did that make her feel.

I gave her a history lesson on what she went through, but some people are just not ever going to get it because she said she thought it might cost no more than $275 tops.

I like how she gave me a top of the line price at $275 and the mid grade price of $225 lol

Must be a big Ole house for 7 bills. If not.....I'd do it for half myself, especially in Nov.

I was thinking the same thing. If you guys are pulling 7 bills a house I need to move north. Me and my helper can do 5-6 a day and be done by 3. 3500 a day I think I will work 2 day a week and tittle my thumbs the rest of the time.

Not everyone works on volume Kory. Id rather clean 2-3 a day and make the same as you and be done earlier. Then again, im not bitching about cheap customers.

She finally came around after I gave her some time to think of the points I stuck into her mind to feed on. It just seems like there is always the media who will run to the aid of a home owner if they think they are being dealt work that is sub par, but they never do a story of maybe the work is sub par because they grab these cheap prices without thinking of why they may be cheap.

Either way, I dont do residential cheap at all and never give a discount. It is what it is or they will have to search for someone else because I am pretty sure they would never want me to cut corners. Of-coarse having commercial work lined up for the entire year gives me the ability to be more choosy on what I do.

I guess I choose Jiff instead of Deep South pnut butter lol.
