Take a breath

The use of the internet, and electronic communication like BBS's, text messaging, IMing and email is a wonderful tool and a terrific way to communicate. It does however have one HUGE problem, written words do not always convey the emotion or sentiment of the typist. Unlike spoken words where a listener is given the opportunity to "feel" what has been said. So when a person reads a message (email, PM, IM, text etc..) the reader often interprets the message and adds the emotion that they believe was the intent of the writer. This is often wrong and leads to most of the problems that we see on this board. This is something that is often difficult to suppress, but for your own sanity and that of the mods and especially the admin, when you read a post and you think something has been implied don't fire off a return message and propagate the situation, instead re-read the message and try to understand if the sender meant what you are thinking he or she typed. If after re reading (and maybe sleeping on it) you still are unsure, call someone else and run it by them. or call the sender of the message and try to better understand what the true intent was. We all have our telephone numbers available and usually enjoy talking to our "internet family".
What we as an industry have here on this board and others is something good for each and every one of us, opening new doors to business relationships, personal relationships and opportunities to learn, teach, mentor and inspire with, from or to others.

I was unable to attend the the Las Vegas roundtable and shake hands with many of the people that I have met as a result of the BBS world I did however arrive in Vegas for the IKECA (greasers) annual meeting last Tuesday and Ron Musgraves stayed beyond his original plans and I finally after "knowing" him for about five years finally met him in person. I also was able to meet Tony Shelton and Michael from Centrex. These are people that I would not have known without this electronic format of communication. I am sure that if I were to go back and re read all of Ron's posts over the years, or even Tony's and Michaels I could interpret things written differently and perhaps not want to meet them in person. I am glad that I read their and everyone else s posts "with a grain of salt" and was able to finally sit down and talk with them with REAL emotion and not relied upon perceived emotion.

So when you read a post, or a text message or anything where you cannot really understand the emotion of the written word, consider that YOU may be putting more into it than was the senders intent.

That being said, dont call me ( I am still in Vegas ) meeting others that I have known from this virtual electronic world. Everyone is a little different that what I perceived from their written word. I look forward to shaking hands with all of my internet buddies one day until I meet you please reread posts before firing off responses as you might lose the opportunity to one day meet someone that can have a great influence on your life.

Thanks Michael, I think it was the Johny Walker Gold Label.
Anyone still in Vegas?
I'm heading out tomorrow (4/6/09)

Yes great post and very true.

With the addition of more "little dudes", hopefully we all will be on the same page when posting or reading posts from now on, they really make a difference when you use them to express your feelings.

I don't know Chris. I'm trying to figure out what all the little dudes above are trying to express about your mood. You are just a mix of emotions (or should I say emoticons?).

I might be a little of all the above. hahahahaha
