Surface Cleaner Problem

Hey I have a peice of garbage surface cleaner.. its a NorthStar. It came with 0 tips.. it started leaving lines, not rounded lines like I've seen on some other posts, but just 2 straight lines along either side of the surface cleaner. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to fix it. (I'm working on upgrading to higher quality equipment)
Thanks so much

Sounds like your swivel is frozen. (Ask me how I know) If it is crunchy or slow to turn by hand, it may need to be replaced.

You said it came with 0 tips ? That would be your problem, 0 tips would not clean it would just mark up the surface. The average surface cleaner would have 15 & 25 X your GPM...if you have an 8 gpm your ideal tip's would be 25 X 4.0

Since you said it is just leaving 2 straight lines, the bearing is gone. You can spin it by hand but it is not easy enough for the water pressure to turn it, I have gone through this on 2 machines now.

With that brand, it might be hard to get a swivel for it but there is a place online that you can get a good swivel for around $180.00 which is not a bad price but if you re-build that swivel, it will cost at least $40-$80 for the 2 bearings (you need to press off the old ones and press on the new ones) and a seal kit which is around $45.00 and if you can't do the work, a shop will charge an hour or two to do the job (this is for a Whisper Wash swivel, yours could be more).

Here is the link for the swivel place: http://swivels4you.com/

Or you can call Bob at PressureTek or Russ at Southside. Both those guys really know their stuff.

Thanks for all your input. Really appreciate it. I'm going to mess with it today.
Currently i have 2 cold water units that only have 3.5 gpm. I am just getting into commercial work and getting my name out there. I just passed a big Sonic Job off to another guy down the road that has a hot water unit. You guys are right about networking! But i am looking for a hot water unit now and a surface cleaner. for commercial, any recommendations? thanks again guys

Call Bob at PressureTek or Russ at Southside. They will give you the best customer service available and will only sell you what you need and only sell quality equipment.

Chris, I don't know what we did to offend you or make you feel that we sell less than quality equipment. We offer the same parts from the same manufactures that both Southside and Bob get their parts.

I take a personal offense that imply we force our customers to buy more than they need, in fact it is quite the opposite. We work hard to find inexpensive alternatives for all of our customers.

I can fully appreciate your support of Bob and Russ they are both good guys but the added "jab" at Envirospec is unprofessional and uncalled for if you would take the time to call us or order something from us (since '05) you may see that our service is second to none.

Hey kory i would man it's just so far. I got prices on freight it was like $500
I found a alkoda on a trailer with a 200gal water tank for 3900 i asked if he would sell just the pressure washer, so we will see it not to far from me. oh and how is your stencil working out for you?

Paul, there was no "Jab" at you, I did not mention you or your company or say anything of which you mention.

Re-read the post:

I do not know how you got all what you wrote from my simple 2 little sentences.

In other words, I really trust Bob and Russ and I know that they will not sell stuff that they know that you don't need, even if you think you do. I have almost bought stuff and they told me that I did not need it and they saved me money.

I hope you understand what this says now.

Have a nice day.

Sorry I took offense Chris it appeared to me as though it was a poke a us. I can fully appreciate your support of the vendors you use it just appeared to me, due to it being right after my post, that it was directed at me. My misunderstanding Anyway...moving on

Kory is right if you go to a larger fan 25 or 40 deg you will help to reduce the lap marks that are causing the striping where you overlap. Also check the angle of the arms that can cause problems as well.

you need to chill out with these guys I order from bob and paul and get the same customer servive and shipping price you are always posting negative comments about these guys

Depending on how long ago you bought the surface cleaner, there might be a warranty on the unit, check your receipt for the date and give them a call, you never know, maybe you can get it repaired under the warranty if there is is one.

if you are running 0 degree, the angle is very important. If the swivel or bearings are good, then check the alignment of the nozzles.

Having two lines means the bar is not turning of which most of the above comments mentioned more or less.

If that is not the problem, check the nozzles for the correct size. If your washer is not big enough, this would slow down and possibly not work at all.
