Sub Contracting

I encounter several jobs a year that are too big for me. I usually try to give them away for a %. Recently a friend of mine suggested that I keep the job and subcontract it to companies that can do it. Does anyone have any information as to the leagilty, liability etc?

Thx

Tax wise if you sub a job they must have thier own equipment insurance ect.
Buisness wise you could refer them the work and ask a percentage or a flat fee. Will they be tagging and invoicing the job to them? if so you are in good shape.

Subbing a job under your name can be risky. If the sub doesn't do a good job, it's on your reputation. Only do it if you are 100% confident in their ability. Even then, I would be careful.

Ed - not a good idea - nothing but problems. Look at the way some of these national companies act to their subs. I would not even want to be linked with a company that subs.

True on what is said about national subs. If it is a local referral and you have knwlege of the work they do you are in a better position but again let them tag and invoice the job.

I have to agree with Alexy. Let them bid and sell the job and pay you a flat commission on each job. Expecially in the KEC industry!

I've usually just told people to call someone I know and haven't bothered with the commission stuff because I haven't had the time or a system to keep track of it but I've been working on changing that.

Alexy has a good rep in this area, I've referred a few people to him this year. I don't know if I've ever met him or not but a few PW guys in the area told me about him.
