Stupid Trust COSTS BIG $'s

I can't believe it. I ordered a 100' length of Dayco, Red, 5/8", 200psi, water supply hose from my distributor the other day. I just talked to him and he says, "It's in" I say "Great, I'll be down to get it. Oh, by the way, what do I owe you for it?" He says "$126.95 + tax (8.375%)"! I let him know; in a nice way that he’d never sell me another water supply hose. He cleverly remarked, “You’ll never need one”.

I Got off the phone and called Higher Power Supplies. They sell FlexiGen, Green, 5/8, 500psi, water supply hose for a whopping $37.50 per 100' run.

I probably don't need to embarrass myself any further by clarifying the stupid part, huh?

I am absolutely furious about this. These are both Industrial Grade hoses. What can possibly be so great about Dayco hose that makes it worth 70% (plus tax) more than Flexigen?

You asked so I will reply, the guy who did not check around for price first, there you have it in a nutshell.

Now I would not buy it unless he comes down in price, tell him what you can get the other one for first.

Also why 5/8 instead of 3/4 or even 1 inch? I use 3/4 all around, feed line, tanks to filter is where I have the 3/4 to 5/8 reducer.

Now just what is the difference, color maybe, one might be thicker rubber but I am no expert on stuff like that.

I just have mine made at the local hose mart in the length I need.

Paul

Paul I to made the the same mistake on a 100' length of hose when I first got started in this bizz. It was the last time I made that mistake and it'll be your last time to lol.

Paul Jon's right about the 3/4" hose. It's better flow. You go to a hose store I'd bet you can buy 200' for what you paid for that 100'.... And as for the distributor telling you that you'll never need another one, trust me, you will.

Sorry guys, I guess I need to be careful with words. I'm talking about a commercial grade "Garden Hose" connected to a reel which has a 3/4" line coming off of it that fills the tank. I just replied to my other post "New Rig" explaining the hose configuration.

I intend to honor my agreement because that's how I operate.

Jon, you really think the price difference is the red dye in the rubber? Man, I knew red paint is the most expensive but red dye too!

Chuck you're right on the money, again!!

Debit card, NEVER I make the bank turn that function off.

Check, cash or in an emergency a credit card with LOW int.

Debit card can break the bank account before you know about it.

Paul we gotta talk soon again, and as hard as it is your wife is going to be stressed till the money rolls in so put a pair of gloves on her, hand her the wand and till her to help out till you able to hire someone.

Paul ya gotta spend it to make it so the more you have in your pockets to spend the better!!

Leave the wife home LMAO!!!!!

Jon, the debit card thing was just a little sarcasm on my part with inference to what I believe is an unethical price.

Actually, I'm sorry I ever posted this but maybe somebody can learn something from it.

I'm sure she'll be fine but if I was your wife I'd be sittin there right now saying "hey you've got a brand new machine sittin in the driveway, what the hell are you doin sitting at the computer? Get your ass to work!!" LOL j/k

Paul,
Its called "Live and Learn". I was so excited the first year I started my Powerwashing business that I used my friends buddy to insure my Company. His rates were $2600/yr back in 1996. He told me I would be lucky even to find an insurance co. to even insure me. I had called a couple of Ins. Co's before seeing him and there response was that we don't insure PW Companies. So I was excited that he would insure me.

Needless to say he tried to squeeze me for even more money into my second year so I dropped him and finished that year with NO INSURANCE. Stupid yes, but I got lucky I got away with it.(Never would recommed this to anybody)

The very next year I got a good company to insure me and they still do today. There Price...Under $800 for the year. LIVE and LEARN.

Quote from Clean County PW:

"The very next year I got a good company to insure me and they still do today. There Price...Under $800 for the year."

I'd sure like to talk to someone from that company.

John,

I'd like to talk to somebody from that company, as well. I got a quote back Friday.

Price: 2200.00, which goes to 3k if I hire a part time helper.

Also, that does not include any insurance on the equipment. Unbelievable.

I'd sure appreciate a name and number.

Thanks

do you guys have Farm Bureau Insurance close?? They have set prices based on the info you give them. My business ins. through them costs $1350 a year, and that is including two workers. My personal truck ins. is $575, which is about half what i was used to paying. Keep in mind that is full coverage, i just turned 25 and am not married.

Jon F.

Jon thanks for responding to Paul and I, was nice of you to do that. I will check and see if I can find a listing for that company around here.

Paul if you check your email you'll see that you owe me dinner, even though that particular bet was made without your prior knowledge LOL. You don't really have to pay but it's cool in this case to say I told ya so!!

Chuck,

If this were a baseball game, you'd be batting 1000 :)

PS: When the day comes that we meet, dinner's on me!

The guy I deal thru a reputable Insurance company is no longer adding any powerwashers. Believe it or not I am the last one that he insures.

The only reason I know this is because a guy in my neck of the woods is set to start his own company and he was doing the insurance shopping routine also. After checking with a bunch of companies the best deal that was offered to him was from Joe Walters. I think he was quoted at about $900/year which wasn't a bad price.

This guy was asking me alot of questions via e-mail about the powerwashing business and I helped him wherever I could such as were to register his business etc. I also gave him my Insurance guy who ended up telling him that I am the last powerwasher that they insure. Why that is who knows but I aint about to find out.

Maybe give Joe Walters a call and see how he compares to other Insurance Co's. I'm glad my guy is local but if I couldn't get a good deal from him then I would look out of state if I had to.

You're lucky. Like you, I had a good rate and the company decided they didn't want to write Power Washers and dropped everybody.

I've posted this before but I like Joe Walters alot and try everytime I need new insurance to do business with him, but he's high. I know there are many possible reasons for this but so far it hasn't worked out.

Wish Joe would change his mind about Bulletin Boards and come explain this insurance stuff, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I went to see the distributor today to pick up some items I had ordered. When it came to the now infamous garden hose, I told him I didn't want it.

Much to my surprise he said okay. Had he put up a stink I intended to go ahead and buy it, against my partner's wishes. Then, I intended to follow through with my plans to find another distributor.

THE END.

Now, I don't know what happened here.

Well, Paul.............did you ever consider that he might be reading every word that you say, right here in this forum?? Maybe he knew your feelings about it based on that.

Mike, the answer to your question is yes. I do consider that he may be reading this stuff. Actually, I have encouraged him to read and participate (where appropriate), as well as promote his products on this board.

I haven’t said anything here that I would not have said directly to the man’s face, if it became necessary. Fact is, I believe what I believe, and I'm not shy about expressing myself when I feel like somebody's backing me into a corner. Having said that, I should also mention that I’m very grateful that I didn’t get backed into that corner.
