Speaking of certification

Guess what? The Fire Marshalls in Massachusetts are in the process of setting up specific hood cleaning standards and are certifying hood cleaners. So , that means all the so called certified guys who hold up their certificate from Rusty with a nice picture aren't really certified ! In Masasachusetts, for now but look out. They are trying to set up a nationwide standard. One add on is that they are the AHJ. Certification can only be valid when it comes from the AHJ which is them. Well well, guess my official certificate can be used for toilet paper now. Golly, wish I hadn't spent all that money on the certification school now that the real AHJ has stepped up to the plate.

I spoke to both Steve Coan's office ( State Fire Marshall MA) and the Boston fire inspector in charge of Bostons cert program.
Bostons Program will begin on May 1, 2009 and as of our conversation about 3 weeks ago the ONLY cert Boston will accept is IKECA's, They apparently tried and tried to get Phil Ackland to participate but calls and e-mails went unheeded until it was too late. there is a move to get his cert ( And the CHDCA cert) into the program. Phils test was unacceptable since he had unprocotred exams and the CHDCA cert is acceptable since it is proctored and is the same PAC test as Phil's and IKECA ;but since no one contacted them to put it on the approval list it is currently not accepted.
Massachusests will implement the same program on May 1, 2010 and it will follow what Boston has done wih changes that they may need to make as Boston sees how things go.

Certifications can be a really good thing if mandidated by the jurisdiction you work in. They will drive many people out of business, allowing more work for credible washers such as yourself.
