my wife went yard selling today went to one where a guy was selling stuff in his storage unit had a couple of 55 gallon drums of sodium hydroxide that was 3 years old anyone know the shelf life

Trey, man I hate to see that.
I did a spot the size of a silver dollar like that and it was not fun. I can't imagine how bad that's going to be.

On a brighter note, please be sure to send Antonio Blantonio those pics and use the gnarliest one as your avatar on TGP.
:)

Hahahaha!
It's the quiet ones you really have to watch.

Give it another day or two to ripen and then take some closeups and make him an e-card to apologize.

Just be careful, I had the sodium hydroxide fight back the other night and now I can barely walk with deep 2nd and 3rd degree burns I have to get a skin graft next week. What a bummer. http://picasaweb.google.com/cdposey26/Burn?authkey=Uj87T2VA_V8

No way Trey, how'd you do that was it straight S Hydrox, did it spill? man I'm sorry thats some nasty burns, glad you are getting it taken care of.

I once had some Roof stuff S Hydrox, 1st time ever using it and I had it in a back pack sprayer...yup leaked out and left a burn that looked like a McDonalds burnt hambuger on my back

Wow man becareful and GOOD LUCK

yea I know it burns I get burn with it all the time

Yeah, I figured you did, I just wanted to show off my burn.

Jeff, it was just run off of my wash water that ran down my boot, I did not even feel it for several hours then it started burning so I took off my boot and sock and thats what I found.

If you wash the contact areas white white vinegar, you can avoid the burns and scars.

I did that, because that is what I was always told to do, but when I told the doctors I did that they said it actually makes it worse and to always only flush with water, lots of water. The doctors went into the chemistry of why not to use an acid to neutralize a base on your skin, but it was way over my head.

I have used vinegar on many occasion and felt like it helped after the initial burn, and yes this burn was already to bad for it to make a difference. I am just passing along the medical advice I got and that was to never use an acid to neutralize a base on your skin. Just another lesson on why safety is so important, we all use strong dangerous chemicals so be careful out there.

Looks Like Caustic Got down in the ole rubber boot... I have a lil scar on my foot not big... I have learned when you get this stuff on you stop what your doing and rinse , rinse, and rinse... until the slick feel goes away.. If it makes you feel better after just 8 years I dont have much of a scar left.. When it is windy and you pour the powdered caustic make sure it does not get in your boot or on your sock, you will sweat and the the caustic will eat you up... The thing is though when you feel it start to sting ... you need to stop cleaning and rinse big time...

Trey that burn looks bad man that sucks

Jeff thats why I like wearing those rain pants but did'nt wear them thursday while doing that parking garage and my legs were eatin up

Why on earth do yall use this crap? cuz you mix your own chems? to save a buck? we did the drum kits from rowlett, and I got a little rash and was like hell no. sometimes you should find out which is more important your life or a buck saved.

Using all this "crap" is really more of a necessary evil in KEC, Potassium Hydroxide and/or Sodium Hydroxide are in all the chems that work. These chems are dangerous, if not handled properly. That is why we have so much invested into PPE; full-face respirators, rubber boots, chemical resistant clothing, etc. It is not about trying to save a buck, as these costs really add up!

The chemicals we use everyday can be dangerous, even the pressure washers we use everyday can be dangerous, but with a little precaution they are great tools and can be used safely.

you are so right , we use the same chems daily that you do , and yes they are dangerous and no its not to save a buck, however they work well on grease and oil and our customers are extermely happy with the results
