This is a Hydrotek ss skid 12 volt becket. It started doing this a few months ago where smoke will come out around the inlet pipe where the water frst enters the coil. Burns clean out the stack, no other issues 2.25 gph tip, 110ish psi. Local guy says when the burner shuts off a little fuel trickles into the bottom and slowly gets burnt when the burner starts back up. This made sense because it does clean up and pretty much go away if thermostat is all the way up and burner is not ever shutting off. When set at say 120 degrees the burner kicks on and off and it seems to be more smokey. First time firing the burner is when it is the worst for some reason. I want to put this skid in an enclosed rig so I would like to have it not doing this. Any ideas as to what to do??

On the SS HydroTeks, the whole burner starts up and shuts down when the gun is operated. As the burner motor comes up to speed, and as it slows, the fuel pressure builds and ebbs. Fuel doesn't atomize well until around 80 - 100 psi, so the fuel dribbles while it's speeding up and slowing down. There's a little known adjusting screw on your fuel pump (as long as it is an A2VA-7116) that adjusts the cut-out pressure. This is the point at which the fuel stops flowing through the nozzle port.

This screw is on the opposite side from the bleeder screw covered by a rubber plug. Pry the plug out of the hole. Start the machine, turn the burner on, and trigger the gun. Back the adjusting screw out just until the burner goes out, then back in until it fires plus a quarter turn. After the residual that is in there burns off, the smoke should stop.
