I was sitting in my office reading your post.LOL

Trust me, I work all day long.

John, I have proposals just like you. I sell over the phone and increase business everyday.

I have sales people that run around doing all sorts of stuff.

Keep working like your doing and you will get there.

I love my life, for sure....

Go to his R/T in Arizona and get it first hand, it will be the best money you spend on your buisness. :D

i would love to attend one of those rt. but there is no way we can afford that at this time, my wife and i have two kids 2 and 3 1/2, and we went out on a limb and started this business, its the only source of income we have at this time! and i don't no if were doing something wrong or its the town were in, but we cant seem to get much business, we love this business and i really enjoy doing the work, but if we cant figure something out fast were going to be forced to get full time jobs, to pay the bills and feed the kids!! we believe so much in this business and we no it can work! if there is anybody out there that could take a little time and maybe(take us under there wing) help us with some good advice and answer some questions, it would be very much appreciated,
thank you  :)

I just looked where you are. Sautee is in the middle of nowhere. But, Athens, Greenville, Atlanta and Chattanooga are all "relatively" close. You may need to step out of your immediate environment to get at some of the larger markets out there. It will certainly help.

If you're not working 12 hours a day 6 days a week ether doing the work or getting the work with fliers and calling on property managers then you need to get a full time job and do this part time until it kicks in. This was our first summer concentrating just on roofs and PW and I feel very lucky to have been reasonably busy all year. I was in the construction business for many years prior to this. Hardest thing for me to learn years ago was doing the work is the easy part. Getting the work is what business is really about. That's why they have PHD's in marketing

Residential is quick money, commercial is slow coming but reliable when you get it. Like Scott says its a matter of numbers too. You need to hit a larger market to get enough work. Pick some neighborhoods and flier them like crazy. If you see anyone working on their lawn pitch to them. If I was low on my bucks I'd go door to door and cold call. But look professional and sound professional not desperate. Practice what you will say. Promote your business. If I'm in line at Lowes or the local hardware the people in line walk out with my card. It may end up in the trash, but I've got more than one job from handing them out. I ask at every restaurant and gas station I stop at for the general manger and pitch or try to get an area managers number. We don't have a ton of commercial yet but we will.

You need to listen every Wed to Lani's workshop on Yahoo chat. It's focus is on commercial but a lot of it applies to any type of PW. Schedule it like an appointment.

Richard is right, Lani chat yesterday was awesome, just like it is every Wednesday at 4pm Eastern time. It's free to listen and participate. You can tell when they are live, just look at the upper right corner of the Forum.

Whatever you do, don't give up, you can make it. I know it may seem like you ask a lot, but we've all been there and I still ask a lot of questions myself. Just stay motivated!

I mostly do Residential for now (even though we do do some Commercial, most is residential) and I found Flyers work best for me. Heck, im printing 300 right now as we speak.

What I do is make a "special discount" for my neighborhood, 10% off, and I distribute them on the golf cart on every mailbox in my neighborhood. Explain a little about myself, and that this neighborhood is wonderful etc. I even give a 15% discount if 2 neighbors get it done at the same time. (my neighbor however is an upscale neighborhood with roughly 500 - 700 houses).

What this is doing is giving all those people the added satisfaction that I also live in the same neighborhood, and I am basically their "neighbor". It has worked very well for the 1st batch of 200 we delivered (got 12 houses out of it, which is a return rate of 6%).

Just a small idea to maybe look into if you think it could apply to you.

Pat at 6% you are doing an excellent job. The part about personalizing and letting them know you live there is great and may be the hook. I've tried a ton of fliers and never had a good return like that. 1% if I'm lucky.

Fliers are tough here because the post master is hardcore about anything other than in a newspaper box. They also won't deliver postcards to an address if the current residents name doesn't match, unless it says "or current resident" on the post card.

Persistence Pays!
