Safety Tragedy ( wasn't sure where to post?)

That is a sad story. I think it's really sad his girlfriend has to go back and finsih the job not even a day after the accident to pay for his funeral. It shows that hurrying up and trying to do things fast doesn't always work. Taking short cuts on jobs can sometimes be long cuts instead.

Is taking that extra 5 minutes to do the job or that extra minute to walk around your truck to make sure everything is secured really worth the life of yourself or someone else's?

Sorry to hear about this, prayers on the way.

I grew up in the tree business, literally since I could walk, I was there every day until I was old enough to get into school.

I know how dangerous the chippers are and the precautions that go with it.

It is a loss when someone out there dies.

Vince you hit the nail on the head, that is what my thoughts are.

Very sad story. We had a young guy made into fertilizer here once too. I remember the news story. Sucked right in by a branch that caught his clothing. Nobody even saw it happened, when they came back, he didn't exist anymore.

Rushing work always ends up in more work. Taking time to do it right, make customers happy, and save on any injuries. Too many people get hurt trying to get done quickly. Even a fall off of a 6' ladder could mean the end of your life.

One thing I see a lot is roof guys who aren't tied off. It's not the 9000 times you've done it without safety equipment that matters, it's the ONE TIME you fall.

There was a kid (think 15 or 16) who was sucked into a wood chipper in Gloucester, VA recently. I believe within the last year or two. The victim was a family friend of the owner. The owner of the company got hit with a big fine from OSHA and charged criminally. I believe the charges were dropped and the fine is no big deal compared to having to live with a death that could have been prevented.

Complacency kills.
