RPM up and up

The rpm on my engine wanders upward while I'm working also when I first turn it on it will be high. My guess is worn governor spring but I was wondering if this sounds like anything else? Thanks

What kind of engine? Could be the governor arm has become loose and needs adjusting. To adjust the governor, loosen the bolt on the arm, push the linkage to wide open throttle, and grab the governor shaft with a pair of pliers and twist it the same direction as the arm moves until it stops. Tighten the bolt, and it should be good to go.

Ahh, I should have thought about that, thanks Russ. That's an easy to follow description of the procedure. I seem to remember if you don't get the arm all the way over the engine will race super high when you start it? It's a kohler aegis by the way, I didn't have the right spring (the tightest one) so I have it adjusted way out for it to run correctly.

Russ, do you think the governor would be covered under warranty? I haven't looked at it yet, still hoping its the spring or gov adjustment - got about 2000 hrs on the engine.

Well it's an aegis so you get an extra year on the warranty I just don't know whats covered.
