Rolls of plastic

Just curious if anyone would share where they get the best deals on their rolls of plastic.

Dont laugh but 10x20 3 mil at dollar general for 3.99 a roll.. Also 10x20 3.5 mil at Freds for 4.99 a roll...Cant use the cheap stuff because I use a big machine to clean hoods and the cheap stuff leaks.. I hate getting caustic into fryers.. I still dont get when people use that cheap 1.5 mil stuff.. I have been doing this almost 20 years and I have found anything less than 3 mil you are at a high risk of messing up.. Buy a couple jugs of fryer oil and you will wish you went with thicker plastic..

John I have some pieces of plywood I use to cover the fryers and I cover all the equipment with plastic and then wrap the hood. I like the 1.5 but I have had some close calls as well, and I have a Freds and Dollar General right next to the house so that is good info thanks.

Hey Anthony, I use regular caustic.. Now in Mississippi the sad thing is no one wants to pay alot for the hood cleaning to begin with .. so even using caustic bead in a pump up sprayer , about 4.00 worth of plastic and gas and diesel I am usually out about $10.00 on a cleaning ..but I will check out Sherwin Williams.... My biggest problem also with smaller MIL plastic is that I usually snag it when I am tarping.. I get pretty clumsy by my second job at 3 am.. LOL

I hear ya, John. It can rip holes fairly easily if you're not careful so I can see why you like the thicker MIL. I just make it a point to be careful.

Oh yeah, and for the caustic... might try adding a little surfactant to your mix (Dawn works fine and I've seen you post this before so I know you know about it) and a little less caustic; it will work as well, if not better because the surfactant lifts the grease from the surface so the caustic can remove it.

I know you know this already so I just wanted to type it for other people's sake. ;)

10x100 4 mil clear $18.00 a roll.

I like the thicker mil cause i work by my self and cant watch the plastic.I tried to 2 mil and just didnt like it the plastic puddles easy and the heat busts the puddle plus if you hit the washer on the thin mil you gat a hole and the heat of te equiptment softens the palstic faster, the 4 mil in my opinion is the best for me.

WOW 4 mil :slap:

I use 1 mil and .33 mil :dirol:

Yup 4mil mil since 1997 and no issues.Like i said i clean these systems by my self so i have to have the heavy plastic to insure that i dont have a mess.I tried 2 mil and just had nothing but problems and the one mil i tried once cause heck you get 400 foot for the same price as the 4 mil but the one mil was just junk i got pissed and dumped the 350ft in the dumper best place for it.I think 3 mil at a max of 6 mil is good.6Mil is heavy stuff though. My vender ran out of my 4 mil so he subed with 6mil.

1.5 Mil 12' x 200' $25.00 per roll at Sherman Williams but I would really like to pay $12.00 to $15.00 per roll just haven't found it that cheap yet. I really have never had issues with 1.5 blow out pilots, cover fryers, grills ,anything hot with wooden boards, cover equipment, wrap hood no issues so far.

Sorry to here you had o much problem with the one mil. But I wouldn't say it's junk.

I often think that of tools/materials when I'm ignorant or don't respect it's potential. I used to use what you've settled for, no thanks :dirol: I'll stick with the 1mil work fine for me. And yes I hang the hood with it, and yes it stretches....the hang will compensate for that! :slap:
