They use those up here too for those idiots.

Very costly. $500 fine and they can confiscate the weapons and vehicles used and keep them if the court decides.

Fired it once to check the sights. I cracked a limb on my bow so that season was cut short.

Worst firearms season in years up here. Way too wet. Thousands of acres of corn still in the fields around us. That's were the deer stay. My older son killed a nice fat doe so he has Italian sausage, jerky and steaks in the freezer. We usually have at least 2-3 by now. Muzzleloader opens tomorrow. Colder temps, 20 tonight should get them hopping I hope.

What's the deer report from down south?

Al, I have had the best and worst season ever. Started off with opening muzzy season. Had one come out and hit a scrape line I was hunting right before light enough to tell if it had horns. I'm sure it did, it cleaned out the scrape for about 2 minutes. I saw 4 does that morning and not another deer the rest of the 3 day quota hunt. Fast foward to opening weekend of general gun. Saw nothing all weekend until 5 minutes til I was getting out of my stand to go home. The deer I have hunted for 3 years comes out where I didn't expect him to. I could see nothing but horns coming throught the scrub oaks. Mind you, a deer like this is very rare on public land in Florida. He starts quartering away from me and I hit the grunt tube. He turns straight to me and starts walking slow. It is very thick and I can see his horns. I counted 9 for sure but thought I saw 10. He kinda gave me a neck shot and was behind a palmetto bush and I decided not to chance it. He stood there for a minute and started quartering away again. I had one open lane or so I thought. He walked into the lane and I laid it behind his shoulder and pulled the trigger. He made 2 jumps further into the thicket and started to feed. It was too thick to take another shot and I was not going to chance making a shot that was not a kill shot. I had to watch this for about 5 minutes and he moved on to where I never saw him again. The thing that makes this so bad it he was only 30 yard from my tree stand when I shot. I went to the range the next week and put four in a 1 inch circle. I was not shaking or anything so all I can figure is I hit a limb I couldn't see through the scope. I have been sick over this all season. I am going to South Carolina next weekend and hope I can change my season there. I am just glad I missed and did not make a bad shot. At least I have comfort in that. This is the biggest deer I have ever shot at and I miss at 30 yards. I have logged hours upon hours of tree time trying to get this deer. You can imagine how I felt. If you can't tell from the long post this is my passion. Hopefully he will be there next year. I went to South Carolina (same place I am going next weekend) last weekend and saw nothing with horns. I could have shot some does but I get no satisfaction out of that. The meat is great but I told my neighbor to let a kid use the doe tags. It is his lease and I go as a guest.

How has your season been?

One more thing. The meat processor I talked to in South Carolina told me that the rut this season has been the strangest he has ever seen. He said he still does not think they are in full rut. I kinda felt that way here too!

How bizarre! I'm eating venison burritos right now:meeting:

Tasty stuff

Its Been a real strange season here too.

Shot a world record - spike this year. Hunted for 4 days and came in. Woke up in the morning and said I got to try one more time, a half day. Left the house at 8 and back at 1. I wonder what it's like hunting in something other than the desert?
