Rig set-up

Hi. I need some advice on setting up a new rig. Currently, we have a hot water unit, 225 gal water tank, and 2 swivel hose reels mounted on a 6x10 trailer. We have outgrown this trailer. I would like my set-up to include room for chems, surface cleaner, etc. Do you have any advice as to size or set-up? Any pictures of your rigs to share?
Thanks and God bless!!!

The first question is, how do you want to make it bigger? I fyou want a bigger water tank I would up the weight rating of your trailer. I prefer two smaller water tanks to one big tank. The reason is that when I recapture water to keep the enviro nazis happy, I can put fresh water in one tank and clear water in the other. My trailer is 12 foot long and about 90 inches wide. It is at the maximum legal width. That way I can mount my two tanks side by side. The pressure washer is in front of the tanks, with heater perpindicular to the sides. There is room in front for about 6 chem buckets, a 35 gallon chem tank, and a tool box on the side. On the back I have a Vacuum hose reel, a pressure hose reel, and a feed hose reel. There is also a vacuum recovery tank. The vacuum system is loose right now, but I am going to mount it on top of the water tanks. The generator for the water recovery system is going to have tofind a home on the trailer as well. I am just trying to figure out where to put it. That is a system that works for me. I store wands between the pressure washer and the water tanks.
I don't like an excessively big trailer for a few reasons. The biggest is that I have employees and they love to put their garbage on the deck of the trailer and leave it, so there is less room for garbage.

Trailer

We use a 16ft tandem axle trailer with brakes on one axle, bulldog hitch and swing away jack.

I like the Bull dog hitch as well. A lot more secure, and a better locking system.

enclosed trailer

If an enclosed trailer is in the budget the benifits don't end. look at my rig. I hope it helps.

rig

I have my ladders straped to the roof, tools up front on shelves, chems in the back, clothes parts and boots in bins. My equipment is out of the weather and it gives me a place to change between jobs without everyone seeing me in my underwear. on the door i mounted my first aid kits, eywash station and soon a fire extingusher. I also have my MSDS's and chem info. I also post my contractor license and certificates on the door. When im on state jobs the inspectors go to the door and get their info and usually dont bother me.

Water

I forgot about the water. I carry my water in my pick up with another machine so I can have the flexibility to do either another job locally or have two machines going on one job. Their is plenty of room in my trailer for a couple of small tanks or one big tank but I need the room in the trailer for my equipment. My trailer also has brakes on both axels (Better stoping power and less wear).

Hello csoldier,

We have always had our equipment mounted in a van body on a 2-1/2 ton chassis.

This is a picture of how we have our White truck set up. The area on the right allows us to carry extra equipment when we need it. This is a 18' van body, 2-500 poly tanks up front, 5800 Series Hotsy, tool box, and hose reels. The ladder on the right is to go on the roof.

This is a picture of how we have our Red truck set up. The area on the left allows us to carry extra equipment but not as much as the White. This is the unit that has a 45 Kw Genset, the silver thing in the center of the photo is the 1000 gallon water tank. The red thing on the left is the stand alone boiler, and the equipment on the right is our main pump, surge tank, tools, etc. The ladder is for going up on the roof. This is a 14' van body.

Hello Ron,

No need to be jealous, build one for yourself!

These chassis cost about the same as some of you guys might spend on the trucks that you use to pull your trailers. They are selling them right now for Zero percent interest!

The equipment that we have in back lasts a very long time. For example the Hotsy is well over 20 years old and the Wheatley pump is over thirty! I replaced the fluidend on the Wheatley eariler this year but the last time I replaced it was in '87!

I have a twenty foot enclosed trailer. It can be viewed at my website. A hot water unit with a custom built cart with two hose reels lets me roll both close to houses with short driveways. The enclosed trailer is also a rolling billboard.

Dave please do me a favor. Add up the cost of putting a rig together like the one you are talking about. thanks.
