rating a thread

Sounds like a good idea but, for what purpose will the ratings be used, and what criteria should be used for a rating? The total sum of all the post together?
Many threads may start as a seemingly silly question and evolve over time into something with useful information, or just the opposite. They may start with a thoughtful question and get completely off track and be meaningless at the end.

Or am I just thinking to much?

A rating would let all others know it is a good thread to read, some are so so, some super good, some boring and some extremely important.

The more highly rated the more will go read it.

Has been done on Dan's board so why not here too?

The other cool thing about the rating function, is (I think) you are able to look up the highest rated posts in a search.........that way, down the road, we can view all of the best threads...........
