Quieting Pressure Washer

Car engine, big, quiet. PW engine, small, loud. Has anyone done any extra muffling of their pressure washer to reduce the noise. Ive been curious about this since we got it but now we have a client that is night work and we are getting a lot of their friends. If we could start at 10pm rather than 11pm that would help. The only thing holding us back is the noise that would interfere with customers ordering.

Go to a muffler shop and have them put a muffler off a small Honda or Toyota on it, that's what I did with my old machine and it was pretty quiet.

A lot of what you are hearing is the actual engine and not the exhaust. Air cooled engines are much louder.

That being said, my Hondas are much quieter than my Kohler.

Get me the model number off that engine. I'll see if there are any other exhaust options including a straight pipe for adapting an add on exhaust system.

You had mentioned routing the exhaust to under the trailer. I still think thats an awesome idea, even if it doesnt have much of an effect. Expect a call from me this week btw, the kind you like.

I think that I posted these somewhere else before.
Anyway, this is my silenced night work trailer

Gotta love the Aussie engineering. I think we would get on great Nibbsy. How quiet is it? I may have something a little more high tech to build after a few other projects.

Cheapest way to quiet an air cooled engine is to lower the RPM's. How loud is the engine full tilt vs idle?
If it is a hot unit it will not give enough voltage for the burner thus causing problems. Also air cooled engines are designed to be run at full speed for proper cooling.

Burner is run off an inverter generator, never liked the idea of running a generator off of the pressure washer. Running an engine at idle, well my 35 hp briggs that begs to differ. 3000 hours 90% running at idle and still running good. The engine runs in a box truck, exhaust goes out the one side, other side I have the cold air intake. Idle vs full tilt is a 1/3 of the gas, multiply by 3000 hours

It wouldn't last where I live. Our Winter days are like your summers.
I do like the idea of having the fans in the sound containment box. It will keep air moving and allow the machines to run cooler. Very nice concept.
