PW Fuel Consumption

Anyone know what I can expect to using in Gas and Diesel per hour... 3000psi 8gpm hot water Hydro Tek, even if this is not your machine, what is your average fuel consumption or costs per hour on a hot water machine?

I've heard that 1 gph is something I should expect... is this way out?

Regards

Steven

Engine, 1 - 1.5 gph depending on horsepower.
Burner, 1.5 - 2.5 gph depending on flow, thermostat setting, and gun time.

My mistake, and I do not know how to edit on this board. I'll need to look it up latter and re-post, never go by your memory.

Thanks Russ

HMMM now I see an edit button that was not there before.

The price of fuel is going to contiue to go up. I revamped, I now use zero gal per hour and 26mpg getting there.:D

Before I revamped I put a pressure actuated throttle control on the engine. I bet it cut my fuel consumption in half. Course you guys are on the trigger more than us greasers, might not be as much of a benefit.

Well I can't find what I was looking for. I used to have a Honda powered p/w and in the manual was a formula for fuel consumption.

What Russ said is close though. My 16 HP Briggs burns just under 1gph and the 18 Briggs burn just over 1gph

Russ if you want delete the other 2 post and maybe this will make since to others.

I've never actually calculated it, but I have the same skid you asked about and can generally run a full day on one tank of gas. (It has a 7.5 gal gas tank and a 15 gal diesel tank.) I carry an extra 5 and do sometimes need to add. I wash houses (sometimes 2 and 3/day in season) and run the heat at about 125 in the summer and can go 2 days on the diesel, so consumption is about the same. In colder weather, or higher water temps, you will use more diesel. I also carry an extra 5 of diesel and need it often since my HydroTek doesn't have a gauge and the tank is black.

I read a article about 10 years ago on how to improve fuel consumption in small engines.

The best thing I got from it was to add Slick 50 or similar teflon oil additive to the engine on an oil change.

The princlple was that the teflon made the engine spin with less energy.

In my Briggs 18hp's I put 1 qt of regular oil and a half qt of Slick 50 for three oil changes in a row.

I change the oil in my engines every Saturday religously.

After the initial treatment I just change the oil and use Mobil 1 synthetic.

This trick brought my gas consumption down to a little over a 1/2 gal per hour and it stayed that way.

It cut my fuel bill to just about half of what it was before.

I would assume that the results would be based on several factors like type of fuel burned, condition of air cleaner, rpm's ect.

My burners run on 12volts and burn deisel, I get about 1 gallon per hour even though I have a 1.75 gph nozzle because the burner is only on when the trigger is pulled.
