I have a cat 66dx35g1i and having problems with it maintaining pressure. After checking the 6 valve kits and replacing any damage seals of valves my Pressure is great but it won't last long. I can not figure out why I have a new unloader and it is not leaking water. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I'm at a complete loss and it is killing me. Two pumps having the same problem. Pressure is great. Cat Parts #34260 Kit, Valve (Inclds: 163,164,166,167,168,172)

Sounds like a problem in your inlet plumbing.

It is very frustrating. Pressure has been up and down all day. Water pressure has been great but the pressure out of the gun is up and down. I'm about at wits end.

For example pressure was great for 2 hr then we shut down to add 100' hose restated and pressure sucked. We even shut down and restarted but no good.

I'm pulling from a hose I would love to tank. That is my next project. My 2nd pressure washer is running just fine.

I think Russ nailed it.

When you run garden hoses to pressure washers you are at the mercy of the house/building water supply. Your packings might be worn now.

What are the specs of your pressure washer? Psi? Gpm?

What size garden hose are you using for the pressure washer? Length? Diameter?

Some properties' plumbing might be old and corroded full of minerals so the flow on one side of the building can be great while the other might barely dribble, this has happened many, many times and not much you can do if you are not running a tank.

I would call Russ at Southside Equipment and see if you can use that pump with a gear drive or pulleys, that would slow it down so that it could draw from a tank (some cannot slow down and can only be direct drive as they are designed to spin at a certain rpm) and that would fix some of the supply problems but some jobs you will have to run more than one hose to the tank if the supply is bad. Always check the water supply on the building when first looking at it so you know if you will have issues.

Just some ideas.

4000 PSI 3.5 GPM, Pressure is great their is no problem at all with it. I start with great pressure then it dies. I have checked the lift springs a dozzen times. The packing looks good with no leaks that I can find. I even barrowed a unloader from another pump that was leaking water from the packing. I have ordered all new parts but it will be a week before they are in.

You are supplying it with water through a garden hose, right?

Was this at a house or building when this happened?

This is a hog barn with enough water for 72,000 pigs when they are on site. I run 2 machines at the same time from different locations in the barn. One is running great yet I'm having problems with the second. It may start out with great pressure then lose it after 10 min. I have even shut down the machine that is running great incase it is steeling all of the water. But this is not doing a thing. Yesterday I tore the pump down to brass and rebuilt it with no luck. I have ordered all new rebuild kits but it will take a week before I get them.
