Pricing

I have a question on pricing. I just been doing this for a couple of months and still this area confuses me. Can I get some ideas from everyone on how you charge?
To give you an example, I recently did a job with two systems, meaning two hoods, for 450.00. (non-Chinese place, had not been cleaned for 2-3 years)
Does that sound right?

Do you guys change per hood? Also a prospect asked me the day if I could just clean the hood and not the exhaust duct to the roof. Said that he had other cleaner just clean the hood, no problem. From what I was taught (OJT) you have to clean the entire system ie, hood, duct work, exhaust duct to roof etc.
Any light you can shed on this topic would be appreciated

$450 for two systems that have not been cleaned in years seems way to low. How much time did this job take you? You should base you charges on what your costs are (advertising, truck expenses, phone etc...) plus the profit you want to make for the job and that will give you a price that will keep you out of the red.
If the same job was done 3 months ago and it is a three or four hour job to bring it back to clean $450 sounds like it could be in the ballbark, again according to your cost of operating.
There is a company here in California that counts hoods, filters, access doors, type of fan and how many feet of vertical duct and how many feet of horizontal duct and they can spit out a price. It seems to work for them, but their price always seems low to me.
Yes the whole system should be done. Any areas not done for lack of access should be noted to the restaurant or building manager/owner.

You are asking the right questions so I know you are heading in the right direction!
Keep up the good work.

What is in a price-cost of living, workers comp, liability and hours on the job. If you bid per foot let’s say $25 and $75 per fan and the price goes up with levels and access lateral work. This is just a simple guide-its not the bible, but it gives you a idea.
