Pressure Washer Problems - Pressure Pro

Bought a 5.0 hp Honda Pressure Washer E2520A AR Pump Eagle Series Pressure Washer from Pressure Pro out of Florida.

Problem - Got the unit - put correct oil per engine manual in the unit - warm motor up - check engine oil - good to go. Run unit for approx. 3hrs - no problems. Second day - start unit up & warm engine- starts to make loud clinging noise - before I can get over to turn off, the unit shuts down. Check oil - oil is at proper level but its a milky light brown color. Theres no way water go in the oil - can fuel get in there. Notice a small oil leak at base of engine. Did not start again.

Call Pressure Pro and got local Honda Warranty station - Warranty station tells me it will take 3-4 wks - they have to take the engine apart and mail to Honda for them to determine if it is to be fixed.

I bought the unit because of being backed up and having 37 decks to restore. The people at Pressure Pro are very friendly and nice but that doesnt get these decks restored. I need a pressure washer. Lesson learned - buy local - if so, I could have taken it in and said give me another pressure washer.

I can not wait 3-4wks - should I try to fix it myself or what? Any suggestions on what may be the problem?

I told the guy from Pressure Pro, that I need another pressure washer - I feel the pressure washer sold to me came defective. I see just how helpful they will be - waiting on a call back.

Appreciate any advice.

Tim,
Don't quite know how to help you on your problem, but if I had 37 decks in line, I'd be going and getting a small rig from HD, you'll lose more money waiting or renting. Just my 2 cents worth!

Tim,

The white milky stuff is lubricant that is put in the motor at the factory that comes out the first time you change the oil. (Don’t worry about that)

I will tell you these small engines will read considerably different when cold and then when hot.

I would definitely make my large purchases local if possible. I don’t see why another warranty place that is not so busy couldn’t fix the motor. Any Honda dealer or Briggs dealer that authorized can work on the machine.

I agree, rent one for a day or two then if that machine works great buy it. They may even have a purchase plan that the entire rental goes towards the purchase.

One more thing for the future,,, small engines can burn lots of oil fast…… three hours you could have lost some oil… did you check after turning of the first time? when you first put the oil in did you start and then tun off to check it after the motor was warm?

Ron

Yes I checked the oil - both before & after - good to go.

Should I drain the oil & put new oil in and try again?

Pressure Pro still have not return my call - I let you know what they do.

TIM,

SOUNDS LIKE YOU THROW A ROD! DID YOU LEAVE IT OUT IN THE RAIN, WATER CAN GET INTO THE MUFFLER AND SEEP PASS THE VALVES , THAT ONE POSSABILITY.

TAKE THE SPARK PLUG OUT STICK YOU FINGER OR THUM OVER THE SPARK PLUG HOLE,PRESS DOWN HARD , TRY TO START, IF IT BLOWS YOUR THUM OFF THE HOLE OR AIR BLOWS BY , THE MOTOR SHOULD BE GOOD , IF SO DRAIN OIL AND GAS AND GAS BOWL , PUT NEW GAS IN AND OIL , AND START IT UP .

HAVE SOMEONE HOLD THE SPARK PLUG WIRE OUT OF THE WAY WITH A SCREW DRIVER WITH A PLASTIC HANDLE.WHILE YOU HAVE YOUR THUM OVER THE SPARK PLUG HOLE.

GOOD LUCK!

Didn't we just have this same warranty argument about envirospec? I think all big purchases should be made locally, for this reason alone. Here is the problem as I see it, you need the machine, but running it may jeopardize your warranty. Home depot may be your best bet, check into some rentals you may find a deal.

Hey Tim

Make sure the pump was filled with pump oil, also the gear box if you have one.I don't think all pumps come filled with oil(shipping reasons). My first machine didn't.

Be sure it wasn't a water flow problem, kinked hose etc. Also what ron said,if the oil level was low your low oil shut off(if you have one) would kick in.

Good Luck

John

I'm curious how much did that small machine cost+shipping etc
I'm not tryin to add wood to the fire I just haven't seen a deal on small machines like that to make it worth the mail order thing. Home Depot Lowes Price club etc usually carry 13 hp Honda 3.5 gpm AR pumps for under a grand. Not the best machines commercially but I'd like to compare one to that Pressure pro. Check it out and if you find yours to be defective argue with them till they take it back. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Crappy line but> "LIVE AND LEARN" Good luck man

Proper oil was used in engine & pump. The engine had no lubricant in it. Yes I checked the oil. No it was not left in the rain - I only used it once for about three hours and back in the garage it went. $488.00 total.

I bought the unit form Southwest Supply out of Arizona. I originally call them & they sent me to Pressure Pro out of Florida. Pressure Pro never called back, so I kept calling them. They finally told me that I was Southwest Supply customer and they can not help me. Called Southwest Supply-waiting on return call.

I ask Pressure Pro if they stand behind their product & they said yes. What do you think? I caution you guys - I would not purchase anything by Pressure Pro. If you have problems, they will give you the run around. They do not stand behind their products.

I keep you inform on what Southwest Supply does to correct the problem.

Southwest Supply came through. They are sending me another unit with a Cat pump upgrade & will pick up old unit.

Thanks for the advice.

Hey Tim

All's well that ends well huh?Great job although I'm not a fan of the squeaky wheel gets the grease(on the manufacturers part). Apparently that's what you have to do these days.

It's your business but I still wonder the specs on that machine? they work for you? I mean I would think you could make up a few hundred dollars in time alone(on 2 or 3 decks) with a little bigger unit. Not that I push the depot/club store models. Just curious that's all. I clean wood with 8 gmp and am considering 11 on my next unit.Long story, I don't need 11gpm. I'll let you all in on it when I'm done(and it works).

anyway Good deal!

sometimes ya win...........and sometimes ya don't lose ;)

Cheers, John

John

I have two 11hp 3000psi 4gpm units. Cash flow is low & this unit from pressure pro is all I could afford, but I agree with you. Mainly using this unit for spindles.

Although we mainly use our Landa Hot Water units, we have five backups that are all cold water that we use on decks and cold water applications. All these units have been purchased at HD and all are floor models that we purchased at a significant discount. I just check out the pressure washer area whenever I'm over there picking something else up and see what they have. Just last week they had a 3500PSI, 4GPM unit for $700. I asked the guy if it had been refurbished or whether it was a floor model and he told me it was just a floor model and it had never been used. Normal price was about $1100 at HD and over $1200 at Lowes. The funny thing was he looked at me and said "I need to tell you though that this doesn't have a wand or any tips and if you've never used one of these before I can tell you that you really need a wand to do anything." I thanked him for sharing his "expertise" with me and ran out of there with it before they changed their mind. We've used it everyday since then at a large restoration project we are doing and had no problems.

Another time I was buying drywall for one of my rental units last winter at HD and they came on the PA and announced that they were having a managers special for the next 30 minutes and all pressure washers are half off! I picked-up two 2400 PSI at 3.5GPM at $275 each. My wife says I looked like a kid in a candy store.

Make it a habit of checking for these kinds of deals at your local places and you should be able to find some if you are dilligent about searching for them.

Hope that helps. :)

Thats good advice.

Its been a week since I was told that a replacement pressure washer was on its way.
