Potential Job on the Horizon

I may be looking at this potential job in the near future.

There's 2 seperate roads that were double yellow striped last week. Each road has about 3/4 mile(4000') of new double yellow stripe.

The problem: The Company that did the job used the wrong type of striping paint that I believe was latex paint. The paint didn't dry fast enough and with cars driving over it(Some cars got paint on them) the stripes got all over the road. On average I would say that instead of the striping being around a foot wide it is probably around 2'-3' wide due to the smeared paint. (I will take a picture and post it if I can)

If you can believe this the Company charged $4500 for each road to be striped and it only took them a few hours per road.(Am I in the wrong business??).

IF I get a call to do a test spot to see if the stripes can be powerwashed off with Hot water I will then put in a proposal.

My question here is I'm thinking that this is really a job for a company that can reclaim the water so there's no cleaning mess on the road. This kills me because I'm also thinking that if I use my Surface Cleaner all will come up but what will happen to all the yellow water on the road if not picked up?

Also how much would you charge for a job like this considering that each is about 4000 ft of messed up yellow striping. I'm thinking I will need to hire 2 guys a day just to direct traffic away from the area to be clean.

Thanks

John,
You did not mention if the roads were Cement or Asphalt. You know what your Hot water and Surface Cleaner will do to Asphalt don't you?

The surface of the road is asphalt. As far as them covering over it with driveway sealer I guess they could do that but they want the stripes cleaned off the roadway. Maybe the reason for this is that they don't want the road to be 2 different colors.

I have cleaned paint off Asphalt before by using my wand with a little bit of heat(aprox 130-140 deg.) and it worked great with no damage to the surface.

The reason I will try a test spot with the surface cleaner is because of the size of this potential job.

John T.,

I did an job 6 weeks ago almost like the one you have posted about. the problem with the job i did was the lines were not stright anyway it look like an drunk did it. was alittle over 10,000lft.

they tryed using sealcoat like Ron was telling you ,but it wore off in 2 weeks and the white blead through.

I used oil base black Striping paint ,put 1 qt of tolene in with 5 gallons to take the shine out of the paint

I charged .12 cents per ft. the oil base paint was $8.50 per gallon used 20 gallons job took 6 hrs , 2.5 hrs was travel time.

On road work you can get as much as .25 cents per L ft. 4" stripe.

call me if you need help 817-558-4274
