Pittsfield Friendly's Restaurant fire damages grill

PITTSFIELD — A fire that started in a kitchen area damaged Friendly's Restaurant at 835 Dalton Ave. yesterday, Deputy Fire Chief Robert Czerwinski said.
The blaze began at 12:36 p.m. in the restaurant's kitchen and grill area, possibly in a grease trap, Czerwinski said. He said the restaurant's extinguishing system kept the blaze under control until firefighters arrived on the scene. Firefighters used fire extinguishers to douse the fire.

No injuries were reported, but the fire caused extensive damage to the grill area, Czerwinski said.
