That really does help me understand how they work.

I saw the pump rebuild at the MB Round Table but still could not figure out how the water is being drawn into the manifold but now with that diagram that shows the water flow it all makes sense now.

Thanks Lori, been a while since I saw that, my first pump was the 66dx40G on a 13HP honda that pump rocked, it could stall the motor, I taught it went bad and took it off and replaced it with a gear box and General TS1511,
Back then I did not take the time to learn pressure washers, but after I tested the head, I realized it was the unloader, it is still on a shelf in the garage. Awesome pumps.
 
the only piston pumps I've seen in our service dept. which have been reliable, were used in the car wash industry.. at 1200psi and less.

Plunger pumps are this industry's mainstay because they have been more abuseable, and are less expensive on parts..
just ask someone that has paid for a Cat SF pump to be rebuilt..
piston-mounted valves beat themselves to death for a living.
I rest my case.
