Picture of two tone deck

Here's couple of pictures of a two tone deck I did back in August.
The Pavillion was sprayed and all of the rest of the deck was done by hand. 2 coats of Cabots Solid Stain white for the rails lattices etc. and 2 coats of Cabots Solid Bluestone stain for the surface.

This job took me 5 full days. 1 day to powerwash and 4 days to stain. Did I mention that it was 95+ degrees which made the deck about 120 degrees. Did not want to do it in that heat but the home owner demanded it because they had a big party planned by the end of the week(Sunday).

They gave me a $200 tip which still didn't make the job worth it.

I averaged $400 day just for the labor and I did this myself. Like I said it was not worth it because of the heat. No breaks except for a 20 minute lunch break each day.

Total time was 48 hrs/5 days which came out to be around $40/hr but I was slowed tremendously because of the heat. And I lost about 10 lbs.

This customer is also very nice which was the main reason I did it under this pressure.

great job...hope you post some more.

cheers paul.

Very nice job John. I've done a couple two tones this year, and like you, I didn't make the kind of hourly rate I normally do. And I even added on what I thought the extra labor would be. I had been thinking an additional 25% for the two tone, but I think it needs to be more like an extra 40% over standard prices. Some may even suggest more than that.

At least when they're done, they are nice to look at, and would make nice pictures for advertisement.

Yea, but that would then lead to more two tone jobs........hopefully you could sell them for the higher rate to make it worth your while.
