Hey fellow pressure washers I have never run an ad in the phone book before, never had to word of mouth and flyers and referrals have always worked in the past but I have recently moved and having trouble getting steady work. What type of ad should I run 1 line, Small Box,Large Box, 1/4 page Ad? What has worked best for you all and what is most cost effective in each of your opinions?

Its different in every area I ran an add and only go about 10 calls all year off of it and one of those was from the Better Business Burea wanting me to join.

I have my add under Powerwashing in the yellow pages. All my add says is Clean County Powerwashing, My town and the phone number. This is all including since I have a business phone #. I only got one call from this in 4 months but it is to clean a bldg.

I will maybe change my add in the yellow pages where I pay more but I will be in different sections of the phone book.

I do my main advertising in the town papers because I basically do residential work but to get the commercial work the Yellow pages is the way to go.

We do exhaust cleaning in Los Angeles and the bigger the ad we place the more business we get. I just went to a big full color ad and it should come out soon so I expect really good things for the coming year!!!

I think it really depends on the area because I have heard a lot of different takes on this subject. You are going to have to try it out for your area to really get a solid answer.

Definitely depends on the area.
We get about 5-8 calls every week (this time of year) off of our 2x1 inch ad. About 15-20 (some weeks more) during Spring and Summer.

I ask rep about a add in the yellow pages a drifferent county. And we talk and talk and went we stopped. She says Well this is what is will costs $645.00 a month, I hit the ceiling. What are you trying to do run me out of business. I think they work on commition the more for them. The city only have about 1million people, Its got to be cheaper than that. Ok I'm in the yellow pages in one county paying $54.00 a month, the other county is about 48 miles away. what a drifferent. So we got to talk some more monday.

We were running ads in the local off brand yellow pages and were getting a 3:1 return on each dollar we spent. This year we added the real yellow pages in the BellSouth book . One small ad compared with several larger ads in the off brand book. We got more calls from the BellSouth book than before and very few from the off brand. I have found that most people go to the REAL YELLOW PAGES FIRST!. Did not renew the off brand book for next year. P.S. Being a member of the Better Business Bureau will make a difference a lot of times in obtaining jobs. It lets the customer know they are dealing with an ethical business. If your website is connected they can check you out online. Image is everything.

If your in the book your going to get called. People call every number until they get someone to answer the phone. Get your number up front and have someone to answer the phone and you get a call. I just started to advertise in the yellow pages this year. I am everywhere my comp is and I also dreamed up a few that they did not offer. I hit one under pressure cleaning. There are 2 headings there that direct you to the other headings for pressure washing. Im the only one listed on that page. So far I got 4 calls this year. One was a $1,100 job cleaning that fan I posted under exhaust cleaning (What a fan). It paid my ads all year. I dont care if I get one more call.
