Paying Employees

Gentlemen,

Do you guys prefer to pay your employees by the job or by the hour? And what is a fair hourly wage? What is the rate per job?

Also, do any of you offer benefits?

Looking to expand business and had some questions.

Thanks,

Hayden

The questions you are requesting a response to requires knowledge of your local state laws regarding wages and overtime. Your state workers comp is a overall issue. Each state must be looked at as if your issues are tailored made for you and the state that your customers are located.

I start my entry employees at around $8.50-$9.50 per hour and I offer 40 hours vacation per year and unpaid holidays. My manager make around $15 per hour.

No other benefits due to the environment that is in control in the State Of California(Gray Davis).

I think by law, at least here, the must be paid either by the hour or with a salary. As far as I know you are not allowed to pay your employees by the job or on a commission only basis. But you can pay independent contractors this way. A fair price for independent contractors is 60% of the job but they must supply everything needed to do the job.

As far as benefits go, the main thing that my guys are concerned about is some kind of retirement plan. I think the next big item was medical/dental. There was a really good article in Cleaner Times about this topic in this months issue.

Hello Hayden,

We have always paid our guys by the hour. I start new hires at $8.00 per hour. My crew leader is currently at $15. We pay about 70% of the cost of health care insurance they pay the balance.

We also provide all meals, cooler of drinks in the truck, safety equipment, etc. All employees are paid for travel time.

what is the average cost of a new home where you live?
1/2 acre,3 bedroom, ranch where there are good schools.
[they dont build these type of homes here anymore, they just build $500,000 and up or condo's]
Here you would need to start new hires at $12 just to get someone to ans. the add.[or hire a mexican]
mcdonalds start's at $9 per hour.

I have not been looking at the price of houses let alone new, so I just looked at our Sunday paper. Here is a listing:

Would you hire a guy that you knew had his own rig? Should i just keep quiet and say that ive worked off the books for someone during the summer?

I wouldnt tell him you have your own rig.........

But be careful, you might be the one that ends up teaching him...........he might not be the sharpest tool in the shed for all you know.........
