Paint Overspray On Roof

Apple Roof Cleaning

Roof Cleaning Instructor
We have had mixed results removing paint over spray from a roof.
Best results were with a 50/50 Water/Chlorine solution and 1 to 1 1/2 Cup TSP per gallon.
I have had this solution SOMETIMES take paint over spray off a shingle roof.
I would be interested in hearing others experience with this problem.

OK back on topic, We have gotten a little lucky removing some paint. Stronger mix than the sauce but still didn't remove all.

I am asking this from under a table so I don't get whacked on the head for being stupid :)

I know that ARMA and that crew and all of you roofies do not condone using sodium hydroxide on a roof BUT, sometimes wouldn't it have its place - like getting paint off? Seems like for a long time when the bleach vs hydroxide argument was happening, bleach frankly came out as the lesser of two evils so it's the go to chem now but just like when stripping wood, MEK isn't the best for ANYTHING it hits but you gotta do what you gotta do. Clearly sodium hydroxide roof cleaners haven't fallen completely off the map because you can still buy them. Why would this not be an option under certain circumstances?

Celeste (please don't beat me up!)

My PERSONAL opinion Celeste is that Sodium Hydroxide is not all that harmful to a roof.
Actually, ALL Sodium Hypochlorite contains Hydroxide anyway.
It is the pressure required to remove it I think is harmful.
I have never tried Hydroxide to remove paint from a roof.
Perhaps it would work ?

It just seems like if the sodium hydroxide products remove oil based stain from wood, paint overspray wouldn't have penetrated so a light hydroxide might work? Latex paint on the other hand comes off of some surfaces fairly easily with hot water - not that too hot could be good for the shingles though, right?

A painter I know just finds a color match and paints over the overspray to make it blend in the shingles.

that is one way to do it.
Paint is hard to remove from shingles w/o damaging them:eek:
