overview of wood cleaning and restoration

id like some advice on cleaning and restoring wood, decks/ fences etc. we have always avoided wood as it is a great liablility if we blow a hole in a plank. what do you use to clean wood? at what point do you decide to not touch wood with anything? and anything else i need to know that i missed, thanks

No doubt Steve knows his stuff If you're not comfortable working with someone in your own backyard, how far are you willing to travel? We do a good bit of wood and are in central NC. I know Henry offers to let guys tag along as do Beth & Rod, both companies from Maryland
