Outrageous

I spent the better part of 2 days bidding a 980,000 sq ft, 9 level parking structure in downtown Phoenix several weeks ago. The structure is almost 20 years old, and has never been cleaned.

Needless to say, most of the levels are filthy and of course every bit needs to be reclaimed. The 980,000 sq ft numbers were provided by the management. After measuring the structure myself, I found that number extremely exaggerated. The actual square footage was closer to 750,000.

Make a long story short, I partnered with a company with a 60 GPM reclamation system, and we bid the job at the square footage the management provided, knowing the square footage was exaggerated, and bid the project at $0.085 a sq ft.

Did a follow-up call today to find that some lowballer bid the job for $9000.00. I realize that no one can afford to pressure wash a job this size for less than 2 cents a square foot, let alone reclaim.

Remember the pictures of Jim's maching after all the gum ? There was probably 100's of pounds of gum in this garage, and who knows how much oil, etc. The chemical and fuel costs would be close to the $9000 lowballer's bid.

I guess live and learn. I'm just frustrated that I spent so much time on this project, just to be insulted at the end.

Jim, welcome to Phx parking garage prices. I stay firm at 8cents. i only have a few. A hopsital and news station. Two days both around 20g's...

That sucks!

I bid on some garages last year and wasted a few days measuring and working on the bids to only find out that they did not realize that it would cost so much to have them cleaned. Wow.

Don't you wish you could charge for bids sometimes?

It is important to note that not all bids you will win. You need to make a name and a rep for yourself before you can ask for the top dollar.

I would learn from this and possibly make my bid a little less aggressive. I am not saying that the low baller is the way to go. It is not.

Let me tell you what I did 17 years or so ago when this happened to me.....

Basically the same story, more or less, But what I did was.... OH wait, this is not the garage cleaning forum with Jim@Garagecleaning.net LOL LOL LOL... Didn't mean to act like it was my forum. Sorry.

Call me, I will tell you what I did.

Hint: I would do a Ben Franklin close next time.

Jim, you are doing the bait and switch with us, teasing and leading. hahahahahahaha

Did you know there is an easier way to measure a parking garage ?

Go to Parking Garage Cleaning 101 forum with Jim Gamble.... In his forum, Jim will tell you the short cuts on how to measure a parking garage in less time then it takes to vacuum your front seat of your truck. And it has nothing to do with the Internet or maps and is absolutely accurate.

oh wait.... never mind. That forum was discontinued LOL LOL

What type and make of reclaim system they have?

Is that also filtering flow rate?
