Open board or not?

How many of you feel this board should be totally open, meaning open for anyone to read. You would still have to register in order to post.

Currently, I have the board partially closed. There are indeed sections that can be seen by anyone. They include the safety forums, fun forums, and the distributor section.

If the majority feels it should be open, I'm willing to do that.

Perhaps I might have been misunderstood in another forum when I said unlock the board.

I do not mean some forums should not be open to all but I was referring to being able to go to members and get Email address, phone numbers, names etc.

That is the part that should be open.

Then again you should require them to use their real name, address, phone number, business name and list Email address without being able to say NO to allowing members to Email them.

My take on that is phony names, phony Email and no business name means trouble.

I would prefer that the board be open. I do not understand why a board like this is closed, and why access to peoples e-mail, etc, is blocked. If this were being operated by a business, and where the members would be potential customers, I would understand, but blocking it in this situation does not make sense. IT does not increase membership, because I for one will just surf right on by if a board is blocked. In fact, if people could get a fullt aste of the information that this board has to offer, it might increase membership in that way. Face it, we are not an exclusive club.

I'm vote also with Jon, Grant and Scott. I think it has been clamped down too hard for too long. Interest is waining, formative posts are falling away. It is in a Death Spiral and needs some rejuvenation. I frequent some other forums which which have suffered the same and they have died slowly.

Is the email situation just since the upgrade? I want people to be able to email other members........I never intended for that to be blocked in any way..........unless the individual requests it, as some do.

Im not sure if the board would ever allow a non member to email a member. I'll have to play around with that.

I vote open but apparently I'm in my own class as far as why I vote open. I could care less who reads the boards or who doesn't. But hidding the board or closing the forums also hides the pages from the search engines. Keep it open and move on.

Chris, thats your forum and if you want it open just tell the Boss man that how you want it. We close them unless the resident expert say open.

Remember, your forum is yours. Chris, your and expert and we let you run your ship.

I know I am new here. I am learning so much from everyone here and a few other trade forums..
It is what I seen in you guys, the way you share knowledge and experience and promote your own trade is beyond impressive...
Being that I am just getting started and trying to learn as much as I can I can't help but be a little curious as to what is in the blocked sections...I just don't like to miss things...
I'm still happy with what I'm learning here and the general feel of the people here is very cool and helpful..

Its been running fine for a Few Years NOW!!
