On the job accidents

How many of you guys have had on the job accidents with yourself or employees? What were they and how can they be avoided.

For me, a guy wiping the inside of the grease track. The edge was sharp. Musta been made by a scab, anyway my guy was standing on milk crate. The crate slipped out. He grabbed on to the hood and the sharp edge cut him to the bone. Cutting fingers to the bone on the inside of your hand severs the tendons. He had lots of operations, and his hand is in a permanent cupped position. Still works but.....masturbating is much easier.
I know now, no milk crates, no reaching out too far and wear damn heavy duty rubber gloves. Good thing I had workmans compensation insurance.

Had a new tattoo for a while. Hot coupler vs. arm, arm loses every time. Luckily this is the only "injury" this year.

2nd degree burns on my back about the size of a softball. Due to a host bursting at 200 about 10 inches from my back while in the lift. Lot's of jumping around, but no place to run! But I did manage to throw the hose off.

2nd degree burns on my side from the discharge hose popping off the filtration unit filtering the ultrasonic machine. 180 degrees, It took me a long time to find the door handle to the truck to get out so it kept spraying me for a long time. this one was almost 3rd degree and took 6 months to fully heal. Didn't help in the masterbating department.

Still have scars from both of them.

I don't know what could have prevented those two. There was no indication they were going to happen. I guess I could wear a fireproof suit all the time.

Hello Ed,

We use Little Giant type ladders. The really large one is very heavy but the small ones work just fine.

My guys love the Little Giants and we have a lot of other ladders that they could use.

Tony,

Were you standing on the hose inside the bucket? Couldn't you lean your belly against the front of the bucket, and let the hose hang outside? We rigged a hook on our bucket to hold the hose.

In this case I was trying to wash a rust line off the side of a building and I yanked on the hose and it popped where the main line meets the jumper line just as it came over the lip of the bucket. I threw the entire thing over the side, but it was stuck in the bucket for a few seconds and got me. This was my first time to do anything on a side of a building. I don't let fittings lay across the lip anymore.

I just watched the "Go to work with Daddy" tape and have a couple questions.

Don't you wish you could bottle all that energy for you to work?

Was she a lot of help?

Was it her or you that said, Daddy goes to work by himself next time?

Looks like you have a wonderful family. Reminds me of the few time we did jobs as a family.

Besides the minor falls, burns and scraps the worst I had was an employee got HF burns down the front of both legs. He a chem line leaking and kept working without fixing it until his legs started to BURN!!!!!! I called poison control picked him up and the ER was waiting for us to arrive, wisked us in and took care of him.
Other than that we've beem lucky

I have had a past employee roll up a hose and forget that the reason it is not attached to the unit is because it popped. The exposed wire cut him to the bone.

Oh and not to forget, I had a guy slam a trailer door down on his elbow as he was getting out of the trailer. Some people will do anything to get out of working.

Stopped by a taco bell at 2am while out working!!
Moral of the story, always carry a 5gal bucket and toliet paper.

She's a little boss. That one point in the video where she's standing and pointing around and eventually stomping her feet she's getting all over Shelly because Shelly's recleaning the side of the filters Fayth has already done and she's mad as a wet hen because Shelly's wasting time and water.

Later you hear her questioning Shelly because she didn't take the doors off the units like she thought she was supposed to.

Since the day she was born there's always been someone working in our house or on the phone with us that was are giving instructions to and that's all she knows.

She actually is a lot of help. She will do exactly what you tell her to for at least 5 minutes. Then she will go to Shelly and tell her "Dad says you need to do this".

BTW, this was the first time the two girls have ever been on a roof. (probably the last for Shelly, she kept her eyes closed all the way up and down.)
