number of bids to jobs

2 out of 14 is pretty good!!
I agree, out of 14, 2 is good. You will usually get more no's than yes'. Keep at it. There has been several times I wasn't going to go in somewhere because I thought they didn't need us, or already had someone, etc, etc, and those ended up turning into regular accounts.

Same with follow up calls...I keep a record of all sales calls and follow ups, and there's been some that I've left info with, and done follow up calls several times with no call back. When I go over my lists, I sometimes think, "oh, they'll just ignore my call again, or "they don't want a PW service." I still make the call about once every two weeks, and have gotten a couple accounts after trying for a few months. As long as they don't say to quit calling them, keep at it.

Have you followed up and asked why you did not get the job. Was it price, Was is timing? Was it sales ability?

I think you need to find out why you are not getting the jobs? If you are losing on price, Maybe you are too high or maybe you are marketing to the wrong customers and pursuing the wrong type of work.

Give everyone here more details as to why you aren't getting the jobs, then you will probably get some helpful advice.

I probably get 1 out of 2 or one out of 3. When I don't get the job it is usually because of price. I always follow up and try to find out why I did not get the job. I'm not the highest price in my market or the cheapest, but I try to have good people skills and good closing skills. Don't be afraid to ask for the job.

Good Luck, Hope things get better

Anytime i leave someone with a bid, I always call back and ask what day they would like to schedule their appointment. Cant say it works everytime, but I am persistent bastard and usually get 75 or more of the bids i put out.

so far most of the people tell me right up front that they're comparing prices in either buying their own machine, have someone do it or go rent a machine. As for pricing I'm quoting about the same as some of the painters up that do power washing between painting gigs.

I am doing one job where the guy has his own machine, but he said its just too involved for him to do it himself on a monthly basis, so I did get that job.

I think we may be talking about 2 different things here.

Mark I think you are talking about when someone calls in and needs a job done, you go out and bid it and you get 1 out of 2 or 3.

M & K is talking about cold calling door to door, this sales rate will always be lower, because you are cold calling, vs. talking with a qualified lead.

Actually, I've been getting leads from service magic and that's where I'm going on bid after bid after bid and got 1 out of those 13 bids and I got 1 job from handing out my business cards.

Does anyone here use service magic or anything like that to get "qualified" leads?

Ok, I wasn't all together correct either.

As far as Service Magic having "Qualified Leads", thats another story for another thread.

We have done some service magic jobs but the closing rate of those jobs seem to be very low.

My personal feeling is that they are mostly just people shopping around.

If you're looking for commercial work then bidslotprogram.com will get you better results. Programs are specially designed for restaurant service, but can be tailored to your market.

If you're bidding competitively and only getting 1 out of 13 then you should look at a better approach. I'm satisfied with 30%, and like to get 50% of my sales calls on the schedule.
