Hey Guys I have a couple of quick questions about servicing multiple long distant places. In the past I have rented Hotel Rooms for myself and my guys when we took on large projects away from my area.

Today I have an Opportunity to do accounts that have numerous places pretty far from my home. Considering that NY is about 500 miles in length there is a couple of Questions I have.

1--Where do you find hotels that allow for odd time check in/out such as checking in 8am and checking out 8pm?? If we had to wait to the standard time of check in @2-4pm we would lose alot of sleep.

2- What do you do with your expose equipment on your open trailers?? Do you tarp the trailer when you call it a day and sleep at a hotel??

Any other thougths would be greatly appreciated...
John

I wanna hear that one, come on guys.. Russ is Sleeping. Hes on the road in that hotel room he got at 4:00am.

Nicks probably out on the Golf, if i was in Fl thats were i would be.

good questions John

John,

Your equipment....put anything that you can from your trailer inside your truck and lock it up.

Hotel....Call in advance to hotels/motels and advise them of your request i.e. check in times and check out times. They will work with you!!

Park your rig near the front office area...not by your room. By doing so allows the person at the desk to keep an eye on your truck/rigs if there is no security. I have often handed the hotel clerk a 20 or 30 spot for helping us keep an eye on our belongings....

i have tool boxes on my trailer i lock must every thing up,i take my surface cleaners inside the room with me, everything else is bolted down!! and keep ur rig hooked to the truck at all times, even if your going to eat, ask scoot!!!

Hey John, it was nice meeting you in M/B R/T. What i normally do is when we are getting towards the end of the night i start looking for hotels on my GPS. Because we seem to be in the same place when were done i normally no which hotels will have early check in.

We also have bartered rooms for work and they look forward to us comming. But sometimes you wind up somewhere at some time that gets a little tricky because of the time of year or a convention in town etc....i will go a town over and start calling.

In 15 years i have never not found a room for me and my guy's. Most of the time i will stay at a holiday inn because i have a priority card with them , and i earn points towards free rooms, every bit helps.

But the first thing i do when i check in is ask for the manager and try to barter the room. i would say that 50% of the time it will work.:D

As far as any problems with leaving the equipment outside, i have never had any problems, just pick a good hotel in a good part of town.

Now if your in Mississippi, look for a Mississippi wind chime swinging in a tree and your good...:D :D as far as early check in, as long as they were not sold out the night before, you should have no problem getting in early.

What i do is keep a list of the hotels that have accomedated us and try to wind up there, get friendly with the hotel reservation person and get their name so next time you call you can ask for them and it seems more personal, hell it's just like doing buisness on the streets. Hope this helps, Keep On Trucking :D :D

Hey John, get some video up there with that swabby, i want to see some dirt on that thing next time i see ya...LOL

That about sums it up, however, we have ran into a problem or two checking in early, when they say come back at 11 am I just smile, comment on the color of their turbin, ask do that have a local 7/11 and that snatch them off their camel and beat the ground to death with them, then I get a free room with meals until the nice bonds man gets me out, by then it is time to go back to work. As long as you schedule your court date with the next tour its no problem and I never have a problem getting rooms there again.

Thats funny chit...:D :D

I usually just call a few hotels and check them out on the net to see how they are laid out. Most of the jobs we travel for are done during the day so my concern is, is there parking for my rig and truck? Will I fit in the parking garage if they have one. How secure is the hotel and parking lot? I usually tarp my truck and trailer just to keep things out of sight. Last year when I was in Phili doing a warehouse my biggest problem was finding parking for my equipment. After talking to the hotel manager they let me park in the employee lot.

This week I'm headed to VA Beach to hit a bunch of strip malls and I've already checked out hotels in the area. VA Beach sure has changed since I was stationed there in 89!

Great Question

Yea those guys gave some good answers to that. What we did back when we did that account was either stay in a dumpy hotel(My favorite when servicing accts) or I would call hotels thru the night to see who will let us check in. There was always a place near by that allowed us to check in at off hours and once again they were usually the dumpy hotels but who cares. Sleep is the key and the equipment was out during the day and we would put it near the office and hopefully right in front of our rooms.
