NFPA 96 Question

I can't find it in my standards book but is it correct that you are not allowed to have any gaps in between filters? I was placing a bid on a restaurant and the had 2"-3" gaps here and there in between there filters. They passed there fire inspection so I am confused

NFPA 6.2.3.3 Grease filter are to be arranged so that all exhaust air passes through the grease filter.

Other sections say the same general thing.

I am confused as to why a lot of things pass inspection.

These first 3 pics all have current inspection stickers on the systems, see if you can find the deficiencies. The last one, 4 pics in 1, was not allowed to open because of the grease in the fan

Remember, the fire inspectors don't know everything, most know something, some know nothing. Most are afraid to show their ignorance. Most have no backing from City Hall, if the fire inspector writes something up, the inspectee complains to city hall. Result, nothing gets fixed. Inspections are not as fun as riding the big red/yellow truck.
