It was just announced that NASCAR Winston Cup, sponsored for the last 33 years by R.J. Reynolds Winston cigarettes will now (as of Feb 2004) be sponored by Nextel. It will then be called "Nextel Cup" racing.

I couldn't be happier with their choice of a new title sponsor, since I've been a Nextel customer for many years now, and I'm a big racing fan.

Sounds kinda funny to me. I guess I will always know it as Winston Cup. Just like Charlotte, I have never once called it Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Yea, but they spent $700 million dollars for this deal (10 year contract). I'm sure they'll get much more then they're money's worrth out of it.........
 
I think I probably own the other 78%. My Nextel bill averages around $750 mo.

Really good service in most populated areas. I like it.

I don't know if it's just my area or if it's because I do NOT have a Nextel phone, but most of the time that I try to call friends or acquaintances on a Nextel I get the usual..."Please hold while the Nextel subscriber you are trying to reach is located". The I get their voicemail 100% of the time after that recorded message. In my area...Nextel BLOWS!

Hope the Nascar races improve. At leasdt it's a healthier sponsor, albeit a frustrating one.
