Hey Everyone,

My name is Don Bedford. I used to be a cleaning contractor several years ago but left to pursue a career as a long distance truck driver. Unfortunately I got tangled up in a bad wreck after my co-driver fell asleep at the wheel while I was in the bunk and cut my career short. So they went and retired me from the road but I big time need something to do, so after much thought I have decided to re-enter the pressure washing industry once again.

I am still working on outfitting my new wash truck but here is what I have got worked out so far. 2008 Ford F350 super duty with powerstroke. Two 325 gallon totes, an older SS Hydrotek 3500 5 GPM machine to get started with. I have a bigger 8 GPM machine in the works as well but am pretty much maxed out on the truck and am contemplating a trailer so I can add the machine, more water, and a reclaim so that is still a work in progress for the moment. I am going to run the booms in the meantime to block and redirect the water till I get the trailer finished and running. I also got a 28" and the big 36" stainless surface cleaners as well which I am still working on finding a good mounting system for on the truck. Like I said, still work in progress but she is coming along slowly but surely. Anywayz, here is the beast.

The City I am based out of has an Ordinance calling for safety lights when washing in a public setting such as a 24 hour store front or wherever people are present at the time of servicing the area so I outfitted my truck with a Code3 light bar, 180 watt LED strobes in headlights, tail lights, and amber strobes on the top rear rack as well as 6 small floods on the rack to add some work lighting, and a pair of 9" Hella floods off the front brush guard in case we need additional lighting on job site.

Here is a quick vid of the lights finally finished. That was a project in itself. Just click on the pic to see the vid. Please note that whenever doing custom lighting to always check with local City and Law Enforcement for special permit and licensing regulations and requirements.

Other than that, were fully licensed, bonded, and insured, and set to start out doing mostly flat work to start and go from their. At one time I had done some crime scene clean up services which I know is kind of an obscure service for power washing but I am planning on expanding back in to once we get rolling for which we are already specially licensed to do as well as equipped with all the safety gear, haz mat suits, and so forth but need the reclaim up and running as well as a few other pieces of equipment to be able to properly handle, and then we are working with the local Gang Prevention Unit on graffiti removal and the importance of keeping our Community clean, so we have got some things going and working on more every day.

Anyways, I thank you for reading my post. You Guys have a great Forum and I hope to see you around. Till then, go easy and I'll catch yal later.

Welcome Don !
Nice rig so far, just be careful on the turns when those tanks are full. Eh?

I'd like to talk to you about the "wash influencing laws" in that area, when you get a chance.
..I'm in the San Diego area, and as you'll find in here.. I teach a wash Water Control class with Certification,
..with one is coming up in Feb. on the 3rd in L.A.
..a certifcation can help you get jobs right away here in Calif.
Good luck with growing you business,
and know I'll do the best I can to help.. It's the fun part of my job.

That is a nice truck.

I am guessing that you might be able to pull one of the tote tanks off as with only the 5gpm machine running you might be able to use the house/building water supply and do ok until you get the 8gpm machine on the rig.

Removing the tote will give you the room for the other 8gpm machine and you can always run another supply hose or 2 or 3 if needed to keep going and not run out of water.

Good luck.

Hey Everyone,

Thank you for the warm welcome, and kind words on my new rig. They are much appreciated.

When I first started doing my set up, I was trying to play with several different ideas especially on tanks. I was looking at a big poly tank but the closest distrubutor that had anything decent was in LA which was a bit far, and though they call having the legs a baffle in the those tanks, at 500 gallons plus, thats a lot of water moving around. The totes arent the greatest either but I got them for $40.00 a piece for two 325's and with two I kinda sorta got a bit of a baffle in between, plus the thought of running one as my main tank and eventually have the back tank as either additional if need be or set it up as a recovery. Besides for the most part I should be running about half one tank and having a contunuous feed off Customers water supply with the only real purpose of the tank water being if the water supply line doesn't have enough pressure to maintain the machine just in case. Shouldnt be an issue but ya never know and I am hopefully not in the business of replacing pumps if I can help it, right? I am not 100% sure but have hauled enough before that I am kinda scetchy as to if this truck would even hold both tanks full anyway. If it did I would bet it would be way over maxed out without getting into modifying which I am not really inclined to do on this rig. I originally wanted to make this unit run two machines having the big one run bulk, anfd the smaller one run detail work with the option of being able to split at least the big machine if need be and run 3 wands at once if ever needed to blow something out quickly and roll, but if I ran my 5 GPM as well as the 8 GPM at the same time I would I would be pushing 13 GPM which is a ton of water. If I could even get all 650 gallons on board, I would only have about an hour run time before I would blow through it if I'm lucky not to mention the trying to handle the 5414.50 pounds of water plus two machines, reels, hose, tools and so forth which sad to say even though this is a pretty stout little truck, I think that is just a bit of a tall order for this rig alone. So I am reckoning I am going to probably keep this rig simple and once needed look at getting a Kodiac or something heavy to run the big stuff more comfortably.

We shall see. All in good time.

Anywayz, I thank you all again for the warm welcome to the Forum, and I hope to see you all around.

All the commercial locations that we do in Hemet....never had a problem with the water pressure. Same thing with Lake Elsinore right up the road from you. :)
