New business, where to start advertising?

I was thinking of putting an AD up in the local paper and later on in the yellow pages. I have looked at doing door hangers but at .50 cents each are costly. What would you suggest if you did it all over again?

When I First Started out back in the Dark Ages.. I Bought A NICE PRINTER .. Got some Blank Business Cards and made them up.. Then every Day and Night I went around putting out cards .. On Restaurants, and all other commercial Buildings .. Saying what I did.. Fire Protection and Vent Hood Cleanings.. I typed up flyers and mailed them out to all the local restaurants..After about 2 or 3 good months of doing this I had 10 Accounts.. Then Word of Mouth Started in... The next month I got 5 more accounts ..
More people started talking and I got More Accounts..
All you have to do is Do a good Job ( and always do what you say your going to do )
and you will get plenty of business..

Thanks, I just set up an ad in the local paper for the next two weeks for starters, business cards and flyers are next :)
