Hello guys, we are back at the Children's hospital ER again as my son is sick again and might have to have another major brain and stomache surgery to replace his VP Shunt. He is in very bad head pain and feels like vomiting all the time, symptoms of his shunt malfunctioning but they have to follow their protocol and try different medications and then finally do the CT Scan, X-Rays and then the MRI.
In all the past surgeries for the exact same thing, the CT Scan, X-Rays and MRI never show the shunt having physical problems, it is always inside the shunt where the scans cannot see.
I made a comment about using one of those fiber optic cameras to go inside the shunt and see if there is a blockage that they might be able to clear somehow so surgery is minimized or eliminated. The Main Resident on staff the other night had never heard of this or thought about using a camera to go inside the shunt to see how it is operating. I think this should be looked into as it would save a lot of time, money and possibly surgeries if the shunt can be repaired or unclogged without removing it with surgery.
They can go inside all kinds of body parts with these cameras to see how things are looking, why not the shunt? The doctors are discussing it.
I came home to post for some prayers, shower and then go back up there to be with him, we have done this a lot but it is always so stressful each time and I wish I could take his pain so he would not be in pain, it just hurts seeing him in pain.
Thanks guys.
