Need Equipment Suggestions

Need to by another trailer unit to handle the large commercial projects that I have started landing. The properties average 15,000+ square foot.

Looking to run 2 spinners at a time. I'm assuming 14 GPM at 4000 PSI should be ideal. But I am open to suggestions.

I've done a search on Silver Eagle, haven't found much favorable feedback, especially for the Phoenix propane burners. The do offer the PSI & GPM combination I am seeking.

Would appreciate hearing from you guys on the best equipment set-up's available. Thanks in advance.

Hey Jim, good to met you at the Vegas Roundtable, spoke with Mike many times, are you thinking of a propane burner, and the one engine 2 pump units?

Maybe, but I have read feedback suggesting the propane burners aren't the way to go, although Mike seems to suggest otherwise. Your thoughts ?

Been looking at the 1440 DSH3/MTPII and the 1840 DSH4/MTPIII.

This is how I looked at the propane burners.

The pros:
It is a greener fuel, it could be used indoors with limitations, his patented burner affords you the ability to adjust the fuel consumption rate.

The cons:
the fuel tank size, weight, availability to fill up at near a job site. Space it takes on the trailer. 91000 BTU.

I would go out to his shop to see the heat rise I would get from one of his systems.

I like his use of stainless steel for frames. The diesels are awesome drivers. The AR pumps he specs for his machines are nice.

4000psi? why so much?

I was looking at a similar machine with the phoenix propane burner. What kind of turned me off was the cost of propane, here in vegas is about 4.00 a galllon. I also read a couple of posts of some contractors having a hell of a time getting parts for that burner. If I was plunking down that kind of money you better believe I better get some damn good support. Plus Diesel is available just about anywhere at anytime.

Jim

I think 3000 psi is enough. You could run one spinner at 8 or better 10 gallons and really cruise, while following it with the wand. If the spinner was connected to a cart that came off the trailer, it could clean on its own and hook to different water sources. Another take is to have a ton of hose, 300' or 400' per machine and run two spinners and two wands with less gpm like 6 or 7 each - a la Russ - and that covers a lot of center, I would want to up the pressure and heat to make up for the extra hose and run 2 machines not one big one. Those silver eagles look pretty impressive to me, very stout and overbuilt. I would absolutely stay with diesel.

Here's a thought - what about cng for the burner?? You buy a compresser that runs on electricity at your house and fills a tank from your gas line. When diesel was pushing $5 I had thought about it. The compresser wears out and I'm not sure what it would take to supply the amount you need but what would be interesting is if you could find a grant or credit or something for using it!

The last receipt I got for Lp was $1.58 per gallon. We self fill at a local terminal so we can get fuel 24/7. We carry about 150 gallons of usable Lp on our Red truck. This amount of fuel allows us to run several days without refilling.

This system pulls vapor not liquid for our Genset and 980,000 Btu boiler. We also use an 16,000 Btu infrared heater during the winter months to keep the back of the box warm.

We run a General TSF-2221 pump rated at 10.2 gpm at 3000 psi.

You could buy a stand alone boiler like we have and mount any kind of pump you want and size the parts the way you want them.

Let me know If you have more questions I'll be glad to help in anyway I can.

Thanks guys for all the input, great information.

I looked into the commercial rate for LP around here, about $1.60 a gallon. Big difference than going to your local gas station to fill-up your BBQ tank.

More suggestions are pro oil burner over the LP burner thus far, not just from here but from all the sources I've been talking with.

Keep those suggestions rolling. You guys have taught me a lot in the short time I've been around, and I'll always appreciate and respect the advice from the pro's.

Dave what is your temperature rise on that boiler and pump set up. Who makes the coil? Sounds nice. what size of surface spinner do you hook up to 10.2 gpm?

Hello Nigel,

We got the boiler from Whitco. They have since been bought out by Alkota I believe.

We try to run around 180 degrees F. It has been awhile since I've been with the unit and took temperature readings. We were hoping for a temp rise of 170 degrees when we first got it back in '01. I think were are getting around 150! When running with 2 number 5 tips or 1 number 10 it cycles from around 150 to 210 degrees.

We still use the 20 inch floater type surface cleaners. Most of our flat work is small places and we do several locations when out and the small light weight units work well for us.

Thanks for the reply Dave.

That is a significant heat rise for 10.2 gpm. Are the coils 1/2" or 3/4"?

Your guys are running with that size of surface cleaner and 10.2gpm.

How does the swivel hold up?

The coil in the boiler is 3/4" and 400 feet long.

The guys usually use two #4's in the surface cleaner so it does not lift off the ground!:)

Thats a big coil.

I know what you mean, first time I hooked my yellow 20" to 9 @ 3500 cold water I almost had to log a flight plan..........lol. Now I run it with 50 ft of 3/8" hose on it.
