more gpm

here's a goofy question.
will this work to up my gpm??
I already have my bypass going back to my tank for obvious reasons.
If I pipe my upstream injector back to the bottom of my tank to suck water and leave it open all the time will I in turn raise my gpm output?
 
No, Mike, the pump will still only move the gpm it was designed to. The only way to increase gpm is to spin the pump faster, although I do not recommend this action. Pumps have a maximum rpm specified by the manufacturer, and exceeding this limit can have devastating consequences. If you really need more gpm, buy a new pump (increase gpm and psi must go down or horsepower must go up).
 
A larger tip size will help. I use a 2506 for a 5 gpm machine. It uses water faster than a 25055.

Russ is correct. Buy another pump. Make sure you have the horses to turn it.
 
I am not getting a new pump. I was just wondering if there would be a change in gpm. don't need more volume, was just a passing thought while I was on here.
 
Yes it will and here is why: The pump is a positive displacement and it will only put out the gpm it was designed to but, when you add an attachment to the output like a pit sucker or an x jet the ventury action will draw more water into the stream and cause the output gpm to increase. That is why you can achieve 65 gpm with a pit sucker. Your psi will go down but you will trade it in for the increased gpm flow. The extra water is not going thru the pump it is going thru the attachment bypassing the pump. If you want to see a big increase try a sand blaster attachment drawing water instead of sand. The sand never goes thru the pump and it flows out adding volume to your output so why not try it with water instead of sand to increase your output flow.

So just short of flooding the neighborhood, what would a sand blast kit, plumbed to the tank, result in?
