I was just wondering if anyone uses Merchant Circle for any of their advertising and also thought I would post it because it is a good way to obtain free local advertising in your area. You can use it to link to other buisiness' in your area and throghout the country as well as adding a link to your signatures for added exposure. You can download pics of your work and also any videos you may have. There is a place for customers to leave comments and reviews and also a star rating for your biz. Of course there may be a local competitor from time to time who may leave you a bogus bad review but I guess that goes with the territory. Other than that I think it is just another great way to help promote your buisiness and the best part is that it is free. Just thought I would share this in case some didn't know about it. I have gotten a # of good jobs off of it and thought it may help others. Best part is that it is FREE! Also if some of you already use it let us know how it has worked for you!

We've been on it since the beginning, and have had a couple of people mention it. One great thing I have noticed, is that no matter what google has changed, my merchant circle ad has stayed on the first page every time when you search for roof cleaning houston. So even if you dont have a website, you can promote your business and ensure your name is on the first page.

Good thread Larry! These kinds of things really help get you noticed.
 
I had problems with it. Some nut (AKA Donny Baker) started posting positive comments for me and major negatives for another PW contractor by name (that I didn't know existed) on my listing. The other PW called me to complain. All I could ever figure out was it must have been a former employee of his or bad customer or (see below)? I actually forgot the listing was there. We never got one call from it. I could not get in my listing to delete the comments and ended up deleting the whole listing, which took a week. Weird deal. But allowing the open comments is the risk you take. I Googled some info on Merchant Circle and found a bunch of problems and complaints about fake comments. Merchant Cirle apparently calls the listing owner as a service to report the negative comments and try to convert them to a paid listing.

Even more weird is the other PW contractor had posted his own comments with links over to his website rather than call me first. I guess two wrongs do make a right.
 
One thing for sure is to keep an eye on these open air ads. I've had at least 2 neg reviews and 2 -1star ratings put on mine and I know where they came from. It wasn't a customer. I have mine set up where my account will inform me of any reviews. It takes awile for google or any others to pick it up and I can normally delete them before hand. This advertising can be very, very helpful but it is just something you have to watch on a regular basis IMO.
 
I'm sure operator error was the primary problem. Me not keeping an eye on it. The bad part was it would not accept my password (which I saved) or even email me a new one so I could delete them. I think the comment notifications were getting dropped in the spam file. If there's a way to goof something up on the internet I can usually find it.
