OK, so We are signing up for all of the service magics, yellow pages, google adwords, etc, trying to get some more exposure, and up our google rankings. Google changes alot sometimes were on page one, sometimes page 3.

It never fails, that when I get 10 calls in a day, I go check, and Im on page 1. Usually in the first spot. "houston roof cleaning" "Roof cleaning Houston" etc..

What have y'all used to to get better rankings, and what methods of advertising (other than signs, trailer signs, and flyers) seem to work the best for the money?

Thanks!!

being reliable, high quality work leads to word of mouth, the best advertisement out there.

I have a freind who is a painter. He has only done a handful of jobs since before Christmas. As soon as new construction went in the toilet so did his business and he has been around 10 plus years. He does almost no marketing and wonders why people he did work for 10 years ago don't call him back.

If someone pulled my name from the Yellow Pages and hires me I am going to stay in contact with them. If three years later they need more work done and I have not kept my name in front of them they will probably just open up the Yellow Pages and call someone else.

I am quickly learning that marketing needs to be priority number one. Without that chances are few people will find out how good you are.

BINGO

I have PM's that use us and love our work, but if they dont use us say for a year, they might forget to call us and just use who ever sent them the last letter of intro or flier etc. I always keep my name if front of PM's especially ones that use us often and like our services, these are the ones that will help my company grow.

I will never stop marketing/targeting.

You know what they say..Out of sight, out of mind.

I have been in business for 15 years and have many repeat customers but believe me if your not continually advertising that means your probably sitting there waiting for the phone to ring. If I have to spend 500.00 to make 1000.00 in this economy I"ll do it.

Try working the Chambers of Commerce, and you van advertise at movie theaters, here they have ads running before the previews. That way your ad is right there on the big screen.

movie advertising.....i like that one....how much does something like that cost?

I ordered my business cards online, and i found a really cheap place to do it. its called vistaprint.com. they offer a boatload of stuff for free. i just received 2 different size ar magnets for free and i have some other stuff coming as well....anyway my point is this. i did something slittle different with my business cards......do u know how the doctors office has an appointment schedule on the back of the card? well i customized it for a quick estimate and potential service....i also stated that a written estimate will be provided upon request yada yda yada.....so when i see a house that needs some service of mine i leave a buisness card with a round about estimate. i have dropped 40 cards off last week and got 2 calls already......

Michael, if you believe that, here is a thread that may change your mind:

Craftsmanship Will Not Make A Company Successful

Great article Ken, I though you were talking about me here for a minute:confused:

"Alan thinks John's business is a scam.. smoke and mirrors. Alan's ego makes him believe this his superior quality is all the customer wants or needs. John just put his sixth truck on the road and hired an operations manager. That burns Alan's hide that John is able to con people into using his service.. after all, Alan is the superior painter."
