Phil Ackland

KEC Expert
A couple years ago when we were doing a photo shoot for some advertising. I agreed to allow my image to be used in one of those photofiles they have on the net. I never imagined anyone would use it, but now I am apparently "Mark Macintyre" for some pressure washing company. I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

I think "Mark" should have thought about my "notoriety"

That is way toooo funny:dance3:

Russ, don't encourage him...next it'll be eating a sloppy hamburger in a bikini...:D

That is funny! eating a sloppy burger.... in a bikini..... hahahahahahaha

At least it was a pressure washing website. I heard there is a family in California who had a friend on vacation in an eastern European country, that found their picture on a billboard or something.
So, are you going to start charging for Autographs?

I checked with the cameraman who posts these pictures. He said he will get about 25 cents for the usage! I get nothing!!! I wonder if this is how Paris Hilton got her start

 Your comparing yourself to Parish Hilton:haha::haha:

:slap:

Well I obviously hit the wrong button before finishing this note. (which is why I don't do this that often)

Anyway the site is http://www.powerwashdirect.com/shop/

Speaking of notoriety, Did anyone see that Price Comparison that Delco did of IKECA and Phil Ackland Certification in their WatsBlaster?

Talk about your "not for profit" organization. Thoughts?

Hi Phil - <O:p
I take exception at your comment about IKECA's nonprofit status. Since you and your organization are decidedly for profit, it may be difficult for you to comprehend that every dollar brought in to IKECA goes right back to the organization. Unlike PAT, no individual gets any financial benefit from IKECA.

I'd also like to mention that Delco is financial stakeholder in Phil Ackland Training and the all your certification exams are graded at Mike Hinderliter's company. Fancy that, a for profit entity grading certification exams of potential competitors. That takes some stones.

But if you'd like to talk about the difference between your training/certification program and the benefits of being an IKECA member, then I'll just list all the benefits of MEMBERSHIP that you and your organization don't provide. You can't provide them, because you aren't a membership organization. In fact, you are for-profit, as are your partners, who consist of distributors who want to sell their products, and exhaust cleaning companies who want to have their thumb on the competition.

IKECA IS THE ONLY ORGANIZATION IN THE INDUSTRY...
That is a true nonprofit corporation.
That has existed for 20 years.
That offers online CEU's.
Who's certification meets NOCA standards for certification programs.
Is an ANSI Accredited Standards Provider.
Markets its members directly to restaurant facility managers.
Markets its members directly to university and college facility managers.
Markets its members directly to hospital facility managers.
Actively advocates to local and state authorities.
That requires vehicle and workers' comp insurance from its members.
Has a lead generator for members that sees over 1500 visitors a month.
Publishes a quarterly magazine for its members and interested industries.
Has true international membership.
Offers members networking opportunities.
Offers two industry conferences each year.
Has open nominations and elections so members have a voice.
Has open committee participation allowing members a say in direction.
Is an INDEPENDENT CERTIFICATION BODY.
Has an independent review process for complaints against members.
*********************
A couple things IKECA doesn't do:
Require members to go to meetings for their certification renewals.
Require "training" to get certified.
Requires membership to take a certification exam (by the way - we've cut the price of non-member certification by more than 50%)

*********************
I'd be happy to banter semantics with you. But I'd rather just put the facts out there and stop the chatter. If you think that you or your partners do a better job or have a better value - that's your opinion. I think that anyone that looks at this list will see the difference.

And, as for the Delco magazine, it took one phone call to Larry Hinckley to get an apology and admission that the material you referenced was a bad idea.

Tim, you present your case well. We attended the Vegas seminar and it kicked ass. We joined and we are glad we did so. Now...is IKECA perfect? no, there are some bad cleaners as members (2) here in SoCal in particular. However, IKECA has the most experienced cleaners in the country as members also. So for us we looked at it like we will help raise the bar for quality on the jobs we perform while being IKECA members. Good job Tim.

Vegas was a Blast...

Sorry to be late in getting back to this -- Been busy defending exhaust cleaners who have had fires. Fire investigation and training AHJ's are my primary focus now.

But my heart will always be with you exhaust cleaners. To that end I reply, in part, to this thread.

Tim Shaw said(in part) -- I'd be happy to banter semantics with you. But I'd rather just put the facts out there and stop the chatter. If you think that you or your partners do a better job or have a better value - that's your opinion. I think that anyone that looks at this list will see the difference.

On the subject of "semantic bantering." The primary bottom lines to all this nonsense are money and control. IKECA wants both.

PAT believes that Training and Certification are linked. We want to provide both the cleaner and their customer with these values so they have a well-rounded, consistent package.

We do this at a cost that is considerably less than IKECA's certification only philosophy. That Delco comparison chart illustrated that. Is it incorrect? If so where?

PAT is not dictating to the industry. Rather we recognize the value that all parties play (including IKECA) in the overall improvement of the field.

At your St. Louis convention last year, Phil Ackland offered his full training, certification programs and more importantly his personal cooperation to the IKECA board for a pittance in compensation. I did this in the belief that together we could make this field better (I still do). Your board turned down this opportunity, in spite of the fact that it was negotiated by one of them. Since then there continues to be a disparaging undercurrent of the values that Phil Ackland's training and certification provides.

Now, others have willingly and generously offered to assist in keeping the "Phil Ackland Cleaning" values alive through "PAT." Someone needed to take over Phil Ackland's "Cleaning" side of things. PAT is doing what IKECA turned down.

As stated at the outset of this note, my focus is now consulting on fire investigations and training AHJ's.

Question -- If a cleaner has a fire, whose side you want Ackland on?

Beyond consulting on fires, Phil Ackland Training Seminars now has 9 highly qualified and experienced Fire Inspectors and Fire Investigators trained to deliver our Inspection and our Fire Investigation seminars. These AHJ's are spreading the word, in part of the importance of removing the fuel. Another benefit Phil Ackland is trying to provide your industry.

PAT is making the effort to continue the values and improvement to the exhaust cleaning industry that Phil Ackland was working on long before he creating IKECA.

Those are facts.
