mailing company I need to make my mind up on

Hey guys question to ask I starting to do mailing out postcards I was thinking of using local mailing company to mail them for me. Question is they charge $300 dollars for 1000 manes and stamps I supply the post cards is that good price or bad price or should see if they have rental list.
The comany name is you got mail.

When I bought a list of names, they were around $.06 cents each and I owned the list.

When I mailed the postcards, the mailing company had a minimum of 300 names to mail to and the postage came out to $.28 each and they used a high speed printer to print the addresses and barcodes on the postcards.

I would get more prices, those sound kind of high.

I think that there is a little more to it than that. You can get the permit for around $150.00 for the year but that is to do the bulk mailings and you have to have them sorted +4, into carrier routes, not just by zipcodes or streets.

It is a lot of work if you have not done it before but it can be learned.

I would wait until your marketing starts getting you calls, sometimes the marketing pieces do not do that good so you end up changing them.

That is why I have not done any mailers in a while, have not got the good marketing message that gets good results, when I get that then I will start again.

Go by or call the post office, they will explain the permit and how you have to do the cards for the cheaper rate, if you are not doing 1000's or more, I would not even look into it but that is me, I like to keep it simple for some things.

Chris you said that you got list around .06 each name what worked better for you getting list or having some else mail them for you.

the minimum 250 for $80 dollors. I was talking to al about geting my own permit having the post office do the leg work. He was saying that you put your code on the back tell the post master what erea you want to go to they make it happen.
here we have to put our permit number where stamp is and postal customer where address goes and pay a annual fee.
nothing works good if you have a don't have good card or you target the wrong demographics for your business.

This is what I did, I decided on the demographics of the people that I wanted to mail to like income, house value, age of homeowners, years living there, etc....

That will weed out a lot of names, the more specific the demographics the less names there are.

I bought the names from the mailing company so I own them now. I had the postcards already printed from GotPrint.com

I took the postcards to the mailing company and with the names I bought, I told them the parts of town, streets or zip codes I wanted to mail to but to only the names I bought.

The mailing company got the list and everyone that is on the list on that street or zip code or part of town....got their name printed onto a postcard along with the postage printed on in barcode form.

The mailing company took the postcards (now with the names, addresses and postage on them now) to the post office and gave them to the postman and the postman did the rest and got them to the houses.

Chris, I recently used Melissa data to research and purchase my list, and 90% of them were deliverable with names, and I received the Cass certificate with the list, and can sue the list 3 times within 90 days before i have to re purchase the list, and it cost less than 50.00. Also talk to some mailing companies and see what kind of bulk rates they can offer, I got mine sent out at .16 cents a post card but the bulk mailing fee was 100, total With list and mailings I spent under 400 and the next set that will go out next week will cost me less than 300.

See if there is a post net in your area

I sent out 1500

The mailing house got the list for me, they bought it from a company but I do not know who.

InfoUSA, Bressers, and there are others out there that sell the names and lists.

You can do it by streets if you want, pick a part of town that you want to mail them to and tell your mailing house which streets to mail your postcards to, you will not need the names, it is less personable (Resident, Customer, Neighbor, etc...) instead of having their names on it but it cost less too.

You decide how you want it done and how much you can afford to spend.

I did saturation mailing, I picked 3 courier routes in a target area, and sent them to every single address in the 3 courier routes, That way every neighbor business and house has your post card, that way when you are doing jobs or estimates they have seen you a couple time further increasing your household name.

I have received a huge response from the first mailer, and the second goes out next week to the same 1500 people.

Chris, find a mailing house that you trust.

Don't send cards to apartment complexes, every tennant would get a card and they have no say in who cleans the building, there goes 20 to 200 cards in the trash right away.

You tell the mailing house where to send your cards, if you want to do the whole zip code or just certain streets.

Is there a part of town or a few streets you want to mail to?

Chris, you answer your phone this late? I will call you if you do.

Give me a call tomorrow some time in the afternoon, There are a few things I will talk to you about before you spend any money.

I know what you are saying, that is why I mention to call me before you spend any money.
