What do you do if your fan seems like it is not pulling the smoke out?

As I was gazing up the duct I remember thinking, "What the hell is that at the top and why is it so clean?"

I would think that would only make the smoke problem worse, giving the fan another place to pull air from. Did you ask if it solved the problem?

It did not help the problem.
However cleaning will help some.
They also have no make up air running which is also a problem.
When it heats up here in So Cal during the summer pre-existing airflow problems seem worse.

Did I just use the word "pre-existing"?.....now I sound like an insurance company.
