Linkedin, Facebook, etc...

I am not a huge internet marketing guy. I have a basic website, and people can look at it, but I do not rely on it, in any way, for sales. My marketing is totally different, because of the types of customers I have. I do have a personal facebook page, and a linkedin page.
Here is what fascinates me. So many people that I would not have a chance of recognizing on the street are friend requesting me on both sites. I know I am not that popular, but I must have some sort of gravitas, just by the number of requests I get. I really don't get it, I guess.
So here is my question, and I would really like your opinions. Do you accept every friend request, or linkedin request that is sent your way? If you do, why do you, and how do you feel it benefits you?

I do not accept just anyone

Oct event San Diego free free text me for more details !!

I have Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts. I have to update all of them. I'm like Ron and don't accept just anyone. However though I'm ranked in the top 5% on LinkedIn. Last time I checked I'm up to 1410 connections on LinkedIn.

Check what they do. If they pressure wash, then you know how they know you. I don't get a whole lot of friend requests from people that I don't know, but I usually add them for at least a little while to see if there was a reason they requested me. I usually end up deleting them after a few weeks though.

Maybe I am a carmudgeon, but I am not sure that I want to be linked to everyone in the pressure washing world.

On LinkedIn I'm mostly connected to property managers, facilities mangers, restaurant managers and more. Very few other pressure washers I'm connected to.

I am not a fan of social media. Due to the type work I did for a few years before I got back into this business (It was classified) I stayed away from them. Those who I worked with were monitored if they were on such sites. I can give you several examples where people lost their job because of something they posted. It is amazing what you can find out about someone. There is a site www.spokeo.com
Type in someone's name and state and it will show you a picture of where they live. There is no such thing as privacy anymore.

I agree, I have lost a lot of interest in social media. I was reading how on Facebook every time someone clicks the like button on an advertisement, the company receives all of your profile, including your ISP#. These accounts are monitored by agencies that sell your information to advertisers. Scammers can get in on this also.

For grins and giggles, I did a search and my mom and I are both in our fifties. She is thrilled that she lost 30 years somewhere. I am really confused.

I have become pretty selective. My personal FB page is just that...personal friends and family as well as a few people I just like to follow. Now my business FB page is what I am trying to grow as it is provides more referrals as it grows. Also, I LinkedIn only with those in my market. A property manager that I recently LinkedIn with has turned out to be an incredible connection as I have now had 4 good projects with!

I accept most on FB, but if I don't know the person, I check out their posts and pictures. If they are offensive to me personally, I don't accept, or I unfriend them if stuff surfaces later.
Maybe I'm blind, but I take Linkedin with a grain of salt. Why do people want me to lie and say I've worked with them or can endorse them for something I can't confirm?

My thoughts exactly, I keep getting a lot of endorsements from linked In and not even sure what they do. You thoughts on accepting FB friends are same as mine, as well. I first look at mutual friends, then check their page. Anything offensive and I don't accept. I really only have about 20-30 that I allow to show in my news feed too.

Facebook has been great for me for business. Has really helped to create awareness of what I do, friends that really didn't or understand that we're not just Power Washers, which has turned into MANY referrals. Posting before and after pics on my personal page has really helped that. I rarely even use my business pages anymore.
