(KSL News) -- An overnight fire put a South Salt Lake Restaurant out of business for a while.

Investigators determined that a deep fat frier was left on at the La Puente restaurant, located at 3350 S. State Street, and that started the blaze.

Crews received several calls reporting smoke coming from the restaurant. When firefighters arrived, they saw flames shooting through the roof.

The building was empty and crews had to force their way in.

Deputy Chief Kevin Bowman, So. Salt Lake Fire Dept.: "We had a little bit of time getting the access into the kitchen area. But once we got in there, we were able to take care of the fire part, but there was a lot of heat damage."

Crews say the fire stayed in the kitchen and dining room, but the entire building was damaged. Damage is estimated at around $250 thousand.
