Kohler Engine Problem. Possibly Starter

I have a 24 hp kohler engine that makes a ticking sound when starting it up.

It's been doing this for awhile and would like to get it fixed because it did it the other day at a job and I almost wasn't able to get it back running. Once the motor is running the sound goes away.

I'm almost sure it's the starter or a tooth messed up on the flywheel. Is there anything else it might be??

Pull the starter and take it to a local shop you should be able to pick up a rebuilt one for about half the cost of the new. When you pull it off check the teeth on the flywheel to see if they are damaged too.
