Today I went to a restaurant that had been closed down for about 7 months. It was inspected by another company about 9 months ago.. 3 Ansul systems .. UL300 .. I went to change the fusible links and noticed they were 2001 and 2002 links ... Suprise Suprise.... The new owner of the restaurant says hey no one has ever told me what those links are for and what they do.. So I took a few minutes and explained how they work.. I flipped the lever down again on the system removed the r-102 cartridges and held a lighter up to the link .. few seconds later the link pops , the control head fires, the gas shuts off, the electrical under the hood shuts off, and the exhaust fan comes on.. I also showed him the pull station and showed him how it works... About 3 minutes before leaving the fire inspector shows up .. So we went thru the same thing a 3rd time... The fire inspector ask me a series of questions, what size are the tanks, number of flow points, number of links , degree of links... He ask when it was last serviced i said in 2007 but that the links were really old , I told him I was not the last guys too service it but that i always change the links, I then gave him a copy of the service report , My certification papers, My business card .. We were all good.. So Today for 500.00 I educated an owner.. I proved myself to yet another fire inspector , which became a new asset to my company as far as refferal, and I got another fire equipment , hood cleaning and concrete cleaning account as well.. I love to know the right answer... ????? Did the fire inspector know the right answers ???? I don't know but Today I am glad I studied my books..
