Kissimme, FL - Motel Sign Cleaning

Turned out really nice. I wouldn't have stayed there just from the sign. I hate that grease road grime dirt.
What did you use?

yeah, the owner was pleased with it and I am happy aswell! :)

I used my housewash mix (thanks to many across all these boards!!!) with degreaser and a dish detergent to give it some 'cling'.

In a 5'er I had:

1 gal housewash
3.5 gal water
.5 gal degreaser
2 squirts of dish detergent

I pre-wet surface with warm water, agitated with soft brush, applied mix with x-jet, dwell for 5 mins, rinse then brush - I had to repeat a few times on each side as grease was very heavy.

I'm happy with the results, although I may change my process a bit - perhaps need my mix to do more work.

Hey Chris and Scrappy.
Back 15 years ago, THE all purpose cleaning mix was TSP/SH/and Sodium Hydroxide.
Don't recall the exact ratio, but it was mostly SH/Water, with 1 Cup TSP, and Sodium Hydroxide added.
The mix was downstreamed.
THIS was the mix favored by the old timers as an all purpose cleaning mix.
There was even a pressure washing school that taught this mix.

Hey now, I don't want my chems WATERED down.:D

In all seriousness though, almost any chemical becomes a "super chemical" when you add Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide. I LIKE either one individually, LOVE them together.:)

how did you mix degreaser with SH . . i thought you couldn't do that ???

As long as it's alkaline based, you're ok.

Hey DJ,

I used ProForce Heavy Duty Degreaser from Ecolab, it has a pH of 13 so wasn't a problem mixing with Sodium Hypochlorite (~ph 11). I used this because I could buy it locally, and I have not settled for one from any of the distributors yet.... although I am open to suggestions from anyone??

here's the MSDS...
